Back to Work Program

WriteAPrisoner.com’s
inmate
résumés are free to post and free to reply to. With hundreds of
thousands of inmates returning to society each year, lack of employment
remains one of the main reasons many inmates end up returning to prison. We
are asking you to help us reduce recidivism in this country by helping these
inmates secure employment upon their release. Our program lets them post
their skills and the area in which they hope to reside once they have paid
their debt to society. Now, all
they’re looking for is a way to earn their keep. Please help
by sharing this information with anyone who may have a job opening. Thank you for
helping us work to reduce recidivism by helping inmates get “back to work.”. |

The Transition Back To Society |
|
At first, inmates must transition into their new
life behind bars. Your letters and good wishes
help to lessen the shock they initially
experience upon entering prison. As inmates
become accustomed to incarceration, again, your
letters sustain them through the challenges that
are unique to the prison experience. At some
point, inmates' thoughts turn toward release
(approximately 90% WILL be released at some
point), and the "Books Behind Bars" program can
help with this transition as inmates attempt to
improve themselves. A high percentage of
inmates are functionally literate, so
educational programs in prison make sense.
Supporting "Books Behind Bars" makes sense as
well. Concerned citizens donate unwanted books
to prisons that are requesting them for
educational purposes. Eventually, as inmates
near their release dates, they must begin the
transition of finding employment and a place to
live. It is harder for them to find jobs, as
you might imagine. |

During this transition, we offer the
"Back to Work" Program - a free résumé service for inmates to post their job
skills and their location upon release. Those of us on the outside can
use our resources - local classifieds, the Internet, etc. to share
information about potential employment opportunities. WriteAPrisoner.com is committed to helping inmates through these difficult
transitions. And of course, once released, the greatest challenges
await them. We stand by our commitment to reducing recidivism through
letter writing. It is our hope that friendships formed with pen pals
have made a positive impact on inmates, and once released those positive
impacts will provide lasting sustenance. Working together, we can
reverse the trend in recidivism and restore dignity and worth to those who
have paid their debt to society. |
