WriteAPrisoner.com has inadvertently played Cupid once again. The web site, which
hosts online ads for inmates seeking pen pals and legal assistance recently learned
of the nuptials of yet another couple who met through the site. "The purpose of
our service is not to arrange marriages, but it has been an unexpected byproduct of
people meeting people," site owner Adam Lovell said. "We don't keep track
of everyone, but there have been about a hundred so far." The web site, which has
been operating for 5 years charges inmates $40 to host their online ad and photo for
one year. The site also posts résumés online for inmates being released within the
year at no charge.
The latest couple, 24 year-old Irene Molina and 25 year-old Dwain Padron, both of
Texas, met when Molina was researching a paper she was writing for college. "I
happened to stumble upon WriteAPrisoner.com... I thought it was a joke," Molina
said. But after reading Padron's ad she decided to write. "He sounded so
smart and lonely... craving some sort of connection. When I went to see him in person
I knew right then and there 'I was in love'... we have been together ever
since... over a year." The couple will wed on December 9th although Padron,
who is serving a sentence for aggravated robbery, will remain incarcerated.
