USP Atwater, October 31, 2007

An Officer was taken hostage today by an inmate. The hostage standoff lasted for about two hours until the Officer was released. Initial reports show that the Officer was unharmed. The hostage taking took place in one of the housing units. The name of the Officer has not been released. It is reported that the inmates responsible have been move to another institution.
