Texas Prison B…

Thanks for the atta boy. Some things are crystal clear to some and others well they just don't get it, or maybe they just like to argue. Who knows? Anyways thanks again. Sincerely Bill

This makes a lot of sense and when you are running a business you have to look at the bottom line. While most of us know exactly where our loved ones are and are able to ship using the most economical way it's understandable that you can't keep track of every inmate in TDCJ. Inmates get moved all the time. If they didn't ship priority mail they would have to pass the cost of reshipping on to the customer which would be a greater expense for everyone in the long run.

I appreciate the fact that you send books to indigent inmates. While most of us are able to support our loved ones there are many that have no one and no source of income to be able to purchase these books for them. Keep up the good work Bill and tell the girls we do appreciate all their hard work. I've heard nothing but good things about your company.

We ship hundreds of packages a week. I assure you if an inmate gets transferred, most all parcels (except for priority) are returned to sender. Priority packages are forwarded through the prison mail system. We truly wish that media mail or parcel post was an option. We discuss the shipping dilemma's on a regular basis. We still haven't come up with a clear cut solution. So we will have to stay on course until we do. A guarantee is a guarantee and we can't offer that without priority mail. I am truly sorry you are offended by our shipping rates. But this has become a dead horse and i'm tired of beating on it. Good luck with whomever you choose to do business with. Sincerely Bill

Conventional mail usually follows the inmates when they move in TDCJ, so why doesn't stationary orders?

I guess I should have been a little more clear in my reply. I have a hundred different things going on at once and sometimes I don't ever get my point across LOL.

What a lot of people do not know is, that inmates are shuffled around the Texas prison system on a daily basis. If we shipped any other way than Priority, and the inmate has moved the package would be returned to us. Then we would have to pay for shipping again. We would go broke doing that. We guarantee deliver. In order to do that we have to ship priority. Priority will follow the inmate as he is transferred. We have very rarely lost a package. After you lose your first package you'll understand what i'm talking about. Most of our customers used to be customers elsewhere. We pride ourselves on being the best at what we do. As far as the free books go, we pay that out of our own pocket and we do accept donations. If you would like to help us in our cause you can send a donation to the address on our website. Just make sure you note the check or money order "Free Their Minds". We usually get around 100 requests a week for books however, usually only 50 or so are actually indigent. Some just want a free book. We run indigent checks to make sure those that are receiving our books are actually indigent. Thanks for your criticism but we have studied this issue since we have been in business and there is no other solution. We do apologize for our shipping rates but until a better way appears we are stuck with it. Thanks Bill

Bill, I appreciate your comments, but I think both Feb and I have been involved with TDCJ for longer than the Texas Prison Bookstore has been around. We know all about inmates moves, lost mail and a lot of other things. I understand that for what you are trying to achieve, you use priority mail, but for me personally paying shipping for a few items that comes to more than the cost of the items themselves is prohibitive. So I only use your store a couple of times a year. Reduce the shipping costs and I'd use you more often. Simple customer logic.

Texas Prison B…

Thank You So Much Gerri. I don't have very much to do with customer service. I tend to put my foot in my mouth too much LOL. I have some good people that handle customer service and shipping. Its a bummer when your messed up from your loved one being gone and then someone jerks you around when trying to send them something. That's not our policy. We have a personal interest and we try our best to make sure they get what you bought for them. I sound like a commercial. LOL But it's the truth. My part is basically sitting here and doing nothing. LOL. Actually i'm in charge of taking care of a little girl. So i guess i need to getting back to doing it. I will relay your kudo's . Sincerely Bill

I use the Texas prison Book store regularly and have nothing only good to say about there service, they can tell me if any books I may order are on the banned list all it took was an email or a phone call, they even found me a rare book for my husband.

I have a good customer service provider rapport with them and I feel like my orders are given that little bit extra.

SO THANK YOU TEXAS PRISON BOOK STORE AND LONG MAY YOU CONTINUE TO PROVIDE AND SERVE

Not intended as a criticism of your company, but it's generally not a good idea to tell a customer who has raised a comment about the price of your services that the reason the prices are so high is because other people are getting things from you for free.

I get that there are indigent inmates and Texas inmates are not even paid for the work they do to buy their own books - my man is doing life there. But they have libraries and local community charities that donate stuff for indigent inmates.

You didn't explain why you "have to" ship by priority mail. This is not a TDCJ requirement. I buy from Amazon all the time or my man and never use priority mail and he has always received everything that has been ordered. Perhaps you could offer customers a choice?

Yea, the shipping rate sux, but we have to ship priority. The Texas prison system is the largest in the country and if we didn't keep up with our packages we would have went bankrupt like many have. We are not a ginormous company like some but we also ship free books to indigent inmates. We do it to pay forward and to help those that are alone. We all know what that feels like and it sux. So my apologies for the shipping rates but, as it turns out i have to keep our company operating for more than just myself, family, and employees. A lot of prisoners depend on our services as well. Sincerely Bill
