Hi Heidi, Septic_turtle posted that in 2014. Maybe this will help?

Hey Septic_turtle
I can see you know so much about corrlink
Can you help me with something?

So I signed up to chat to someone, I am outside the US and it I paid $10 for premium membership and it charges me $0.25 per message. I have not clarified yet if they are also charging the inmates but I would hope not as it's just electronic messages.

I have used corrlinks quite extensively to talk to inmates in federal prisons.

It is excellent for quick messaging. At one time a pal and I were talking back and forth up to six times a day.

But, as captives pay quite dearly for the service - not only the time spent typing, but also the time spent reading - and as they don't always have the facility to print out your letters (which costs them extra) - it is best used only for quick chit-chat.

Ty Danielle . I was wondering about that. So then I assume the PPs pay the the service since we dont. Ummm that is interesting but a very nice way to stay in touch.

I have the premium edition. its a yearly fee and then you can put the app on your smart phone. which makes it so much easier think it cost me $10 for the year because im outside the u.s. still doesn't cost to send the messages after you paid the fee for the year. the app Is so much easier just like sending a text message and none of the messing of signing in all the time and the messages go straight to your phone so you don't have to keep checking it to see if you have a message.

If using Corrlinks to communicate with federal inmates, it does not cost the free world user any money,(unless you choose to upgrade to their premier account) but the federal inmate pays 15 cents per minute ( I believe) to use the computers at the facility and can only use a computer in 30 minute blocks. They then must wait at least another 30 minutes before they can access their trulincs account again.

Thank you all I have a PP in Otisville, NY and he uses this and I new nothing about it . So we dont pay anyhing unless we upgrade to the premium edition. What is the difference .

I just want to add to what Earthmother said. If you are using Corrlinks to message someone in a non-federal facility like Iowa (I have a pal in Iowa and we use corrlinks), it costs you $0.25 or $0.30 per message, depending on where you are messaging to (Iowa is $0.25 per message). Also, for these facilities, you do not have to wait for them to message you an access code, just look them up on corrlinks by state and you can add them to your inmate list and start messaging right away as long as you have funds in your account.

Corrlinks is the email system used by the Federal prison system. It is also used by Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and ICA Farmville.

In order for a federal inmate to be able to send you emails, you must first send them your email address via snail mail. They will enter the email into their contact list information on the Trulincs system at their institution.

You will then receive an email that will have an identification code which you will need to add them to your Corrlinks account through the Manage My Inmate List ( accessed via the Account Management link). Both of you will then be able to start sending emails to each other usually within the next half an hour.
