Hey everyone... I have been on here for about one month and I am barely getting around to this.(lol) My name is Vanessa I am 24 years old. I live in Phoenix Arizona. I have been writing to my pp for about six months. I went to see him for the first time Saturday May, 8th. It was wonderful!! I have one son and he is 5 years old. It's nice meeting you all and having someone to ask for advice or simply offering my support wherever it may be needed.

Joy

Joy is actually my middle name but the name I generally go by is Mannie. I am 42 years old and and are Aussie born and raised. I live in Bendigo which is a city situated in the central region of the state of Victoria. I am a single mum and have 2 daughters and 1 son. My son still lives at home with me but my daughters have both left home and have made good lives for themselves. My younger daughter is also pregnant which means that I will become a grandmother for the first time somewhere around Christmas. It’s kind of a scary thought but I’m actually looking forward to it. I work part time on a voluntary basis for the R.S.P.C.A. animal shelter here in Bendigo because I love animals and derive a lot of pleasure from taking care of them. I have quite a few pets at home as well – 3 dogs, 1 cat, 4 guinea pigs and 9 mice – so my job is duplicated at home as well. I studied English and short story writing for four years and have a diploma in that field. I have also studied History, Art, Studio Art, Graphic Communications and Fashion Design and have won various awards for most of those subjects as well as receiving certificates for them. Much of my work has also been kept by the schools and colleges over the years as reference material for other students. My hobbies inlude designing clothes and costumes, jewellery making, restoring old furniture, reading, researching and writing poetry and lyrics and writing letters. But the one thing I am most passionate about is helping prison inmates. My father was a prison officer for a number of years so my life has evolved around the prison system since I was around 13 years of age. I have made many good friends over the years within the prison walls and have never once regretted any of those friendships because such a lot of good has come out of them. For the past three years I have been writing to 8 inmates in various states across the U.S.A. and have loved every minute of it. They’ve all turned out to be great guys and I am certainly glad that I’ve had the opportunity to get to know them.

Hi everyone, I am new to the world of pping and I think I like it. I have one pp and think it will stay that way for a while. I have to tell you that I have very much appreciated the insight and wisdom from the members I have read. It will help me to set boundaries with my pp.
I am 43 years old, soon to be 44 on Friday. Married, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat and a busy life. I am the director of a crisis pregnancy center and that keeps me hopping. Hope this reply posts as I had difficulty in posting a message yesterday, it never did post. Very nice to meet all of you.

Hi everyone. I have been writing for a couple of months now wanted to help put a little sunshine and compassion into someones cell. I live in the UK and work for a Bank and have other community projects on the side also should be starting as a volunteer prison visitor here in the UK soon. It is interesting to see the differences between the treatment of inmates between the two countries. I would like to thank those who have replied to my postings so far it is really helpful.

I never intended to fall in love with my pen pal...He's the greatest person around and we have a special kind of love going on.... I also have many pals that are just my friends, i love each and every one of them in different ways. Not everyone falls in love but dont ever say you'll never do it b/c i was the same way and now look at me.

Arkansas135

Welcom Btonbabe. I'm sure you have not offened anyone. One the the main reasons I visit this board is because of all the great advise and insight. I've not fallen in love with my pp but I'm not saying it could happen. Many here go to visit their pp after writing for a period of time, some long and some short. Some go and see that their pp is not what they may have thought. Some it seems do fall in love. Some are just friends. I'm sure you will get more responses to your question, It's a good one. Take care my dear.

Hi everyone
My name is Tasha & i live in England, i am 23 years old & am mum to 2 year old son (Wesley) & 9 year old stepson (Sheldon).
Im new here & i havnt written to any prisoners yet...
I was wondering if it affected anybodies judgement knowing what these people are in prison for? Or if that dosnt matter.
Also isnt there alot of people that have fallen in love with prisoners after writing to them? How do you really know that it is genuine from the prisoners side (like you all say they are very lonely).
Im sorry if i have offended anyone it has not been my intention but i am just curious.

Thanks Arkansas135 - I also just bought a brand new condo. I believe that my husband sabotaged it all. I tried to be so good to him and he just twisted everything. But I do appreciate the encouragement from you and everyone else - keep in touch!

Arkansas135

Hey mommy1, Sorry to hear about the divorce? Don't understand why he would do that. Oh, well. Proud of you for your clean living for the past 2 years and wanted you to know that.

PerkyCecilia

Okay, now that I'm an "official" pen pal, since I got my first reply lol, I guess it's my turn.
My name is Cecilia, I'm 36, live in Illinois, with my boyfriend. I have 2 kids, my daughter is 15, my son is 11. No pets right now. I have my own small business, making costumes for Rennaissance Faires.
I remember the Susan Smith thing on this site, but I just stumbled in here about two weeks ago when I was checking something else out. And like so many others, I've been here ever since! lol
My ppp is a man in Illinois, who has life, no parole. He was on DR, until our former Gov. commuted all Death Row sentences to life. He'd like more friends. His name is John Pecoraro- go check out his ad! :-)

Heymommy1

Hello everyone - I am Heymommy1 from the East Coast USA - New Jersey that is. I am married to a prisoner in California but pending a divorce (That he filed for that is). I am a solo mother of an adorable 2 1/2 year old boy. My hobbies are reading, surfing the internet, writing, and cooking. I am also a recovering addict with 2 years clean & sober! I am Italian yes full blooded that is and I am 37 years old. Well thanks again everyone for your support!

Magicman366

No kidding. That just made me think of Fort Kittanning days. I used to go there every year.

purple_tiger

I'm 43, single, but involved in a long distance relationship with a wonderful man. No kids and no pets unless you count my horse (Junkyard) who is currently sulking because he and his best friend have just been put inside an electric fence, thus ending their unauthorized explorations of the countryside. Besides writing my pals and riding my horse, I enjoy counted cross stitch, reading (primarily fantasy and science fiction, which I also fool around writing), and avoiding housework. Hmm... what else... I've been following a Pagan path for about 15 years (officially, but it felt so much like coming home that you could almost say I've been on it for 43 years.)

Oh, and MagicMan -- we're neighbors -- I live in Kittanning.

crzygrlnohio

Welcome to all the newbies!!!!!

Magicman366

Hello Pat and thank you for the welcome. I really only know the basics of my pen pal's story. She did thank me for choosing to write to her with all those pretty women available. I think she's quite attractive myself. It is tough when a woman is subject to abuse at the hands of a man sworn to love her. In my eyes, any man who does that is not a real man.

whitediamonds

Ditto, how easily bad things can happen for several reason's, I can relate to that, to good people too.

Arkansas135

You both have very moving and touching stories. Hopfully life is wonderful now. After being in law enforcement I've had some experiance in abuse but still can only imagine.

Patzwife

Well said Skater.I hadn't really put that together until now but I have lived through enough in my life to have seen...things happen along lifes path.My ex is exactly where he belongs, but there are people in prison for things that were really beyond there control.I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong.

skatergirl

Hi Patzwife!
Strange...I think many of us have such experiences as you with your ex-husband...My first husband was a violent and paranoid guy and we once had a fight (one of many fights we had) and as I in the end managed to escape from the flat he followed me to the stairs and I pushed him. Not by accident btw...He felt down and lay there. I didn`t know that moment if he only was too drunk or hurt or dead. But I remember (although its more than 15 years ago)that I didn`t feel anything. I simply didn`t care...and ran away...So it could have easily happened that I was a murderer...Maybe it`s not only our wish to help those guys in prison, not only our wish to feel loved and to love or to find true friendship. Maybe it`s also that we know how easily bad things can happen, out of several reasons.
Hope you could follow my thoughts :-)
And...to lead back to life: we seem to get spring temperatures here in Germany! The kids and me were visiting my parents today and I was skating-great!
Happy easter to you all!

Patzwife

Hi Magic, nice to have ya with us!I saw a special on Women in Prison yesterday and it was SO sad how lonely these women are.I coud relate with them all. Some had killed there abusers (domestic violence.) But for the grace of GOD...it could have been me but I escaped. My first husband is now in prison for murdering his next girlfriend. All this happened 30 years ago but you never forget it!

Magicman366

I think I'm going to like it here. My name's Mike and I'm a 38 year old divorced male from Butler, PA. I've posted a handful of times and, like several others, heard about the site when the whole Susan Smith thing was going on. I sent my first message by e-mail last month and received my first letter just over a week ago. I chose her name at random and decided to write because I liked her bio and I liked her smile.

Arkansas135

How cool.
I'm a male, 50, divorced 4 years. I have 2 kids living with me full time (daughter 15 and son 13). I spent 12 years flying the KC-135 in the Air Force. I got out in 1992 and became a detective. I was shot in the leg in 1996 and was given retirement in 1997. I do a lot of civic things and was elected to the local school board in 1999 (up for reelection this year). I'm very new here. I've written to a few women incarserated in the past but not for a couple of years. I send them a would send them a few bucks from time to time to help them out but never heard from anyone after their release. That's OK though, I feel good that could help some. Anyway, nice to be here. J. R.

WhiteTrash

hey everyone - this is my first post although i have been lurking and reading the message board since last summer. i'm 29yo, live in los angeles and work in the entertainment industry (legit). i have a great group of friends and a life that is more good than not, and way more happy than sad.

originally i heard about the site with all the publicity over susan smith, so i logged on to check it out with absolutely no intention of writing anyone.

one of the first ads i came across changed that. i found myself looking at a picture of someone that could really easily be in one of the pictures of my group of friends on my refrigerator - same age, looks, everything - as the guys i play water polo with or surf with or go to the batting cages with. i imagined myself in his position, or one of my good friends being in his position and it really hit me. on a whim i decided to write him a letter just to say hi. for some reason i knew that if it were the other way around, and he were reading MY ad, i would want him to write.

i could never have imagined making such a good friend and and finding such a cool, decent, honest dude in such an unusual way.

crzygrlnohio

Welcome to the family "old man" hehe

I dont know what you consider old but i'm almost 30 :(

DBERN48827

hi everyone, my name is Dick and i am new to this site. from what i have read i think that i am the oldest male on the site. the older females don't give their age. so, if you like, just call me "old man".

well first off, i admire the way most of you write. i hope that i can keep up with all of you.

i am from Michigan, however, i have a winter home in Arizona and my wife and i enjoy
three and one half months here each year. we are heading north on the 2nd of April.

i am retired from the business world and now can enjoy life. it's great!

i have many things that i am interesed in doing and my hobby is " amateur radio " i can talk around the world and i have met many interesting people this way.

i do not have a pal at this time. when i find one it will be the first. i am looking forward to finding one soon.

i read the " posts " most every day. so, be nice when you talk about me PLEASE.

Hi everyone! I honestly feel everyone who replied to this topic are feeling, caring and sensitive people no matter what age, gender or race. This is sooooo good.I am an oldie I will be 56 really soon. I have been exposed to the Justice Sys. in Ohio for a long time like 20 1/2 years. I do get really crazy from time to time. I have so many times have felt sooo alone in this struggle to maintain a connection with my son. I have felt frustration, anger, resentment and hoplesness. I have spent lots of money to have it only blown away as he gets moved around alot. I still hurt inside, I doubt if that will ever go away!It is hard to talk with family or friends just how I feel as I have in the past saw and felt this void in their eyes and body language. Gee guys ever notice how fast the "subject matter" changes when you get to talking about an incarcerated person?? "They" get all ansty and nervous around you??
thanks for being here WAP.

Hello. I am Roger from Atlanta. I first found out about WAP thanks to AOL with the Susan Smith events last summer. I started with 10 pals and now down to 7 and consider 4 to be great friends now. I don't post often but read what you great people share almost every day. I have learned a lot and I know that we make a difference in the lives of many men and women in prison. If anyone needs help or advice please contact me like I have with so many people here. Welcome to everyone that is new to the site.

lulu

helo and welcome to all the newbies

crzygrlnohio

I know exactly what your saying about the "non-traditional" relationship. My guy and i are the same way......It's just a great feeling...to know that no matter what you do in life your always gonna have this one person that's gonna love you and be there for you. My guy has helped me through alot as well as i've helped him through alot. Do you just have the one pal Chi?

chigirl78

Hello everyone!

I am very new here and I love the site. My name is Dawn, I am 25 years old and live in Chicago. I was born and raised in WI and moved to Chicago to attend college. I received my B.S. in Business Operations. I've never been married and I have no children. I work downtown and have a pretty awesome group of friends. I found out about WAP by pure accident...one of my employees was surfing the website during works hours and I had to give him a verbal warning. I went home that evening, checked out the site for myself and the VERY first ad I chose to read was from an extremely articulate and very funny man at DVI. For no reason whatsoever, I decided to write him (which is totally unlike my conservative nature) and 1.5 years later we are best friends and more importantly, we love and respect each other. Although we have a very "non-traditional" relationship, Greg has helped me through ALOT in this outside world.

I would like to thank Novelwriter for responding to my inquiry so quickly. You replied promptly (within 24 hours) and I was impressed by the input given from the moderators throughout the message board. I will definitely be stopping in daily.
