Hi!

Does anyone know the very best shelters to go to in Atlanta, GA and Fayetteville, NC?

Amantha, he used to be a street dealer but was never addicted. Do I just google "health and human services department" in the cities he'd be looking at and ask? I'm asking you this question because I'm from Europe and not sure how things are organized in the US.

Here are some links for you. This would be a good starting place and they would be able to direct you to the right agency.

North Carolina - NC Department of Health and Human Services

Georgia - Georgia Department of Human Services | Georgia.gov

I'd start with an email explaining what you are looking for and go from there. Give it some time because these organizations are often inundated with requests and it can be awhile before they respond.

Thx very much for your replies. Rjw, thankfully this is not for me but for my pen pal, but I feel terrible all the same. His only two options, his grandmother and his mother, have both died within 6 months of each other.
I live in Holland, so I cannot be of any help. He will either go to NC or GA. Release date uncertain, with current law changes it could be any day, but max. 3 years.

Shelters generally are first come first serve. Have you checked into sober living? Some cities have converted houses with 6-10 separate apartments for those in recovery. You pen pal might qualify if he/she has a history of addiction. The Heath and human services department may be able to point you in the right direction or have information on other resources.

Shelters? Like homeless shelters? They are never good places. I guess the ones that are operated by church groups might be a little better because of the house rules. Is this for you or your penpal'
