Hello, I wrote to two inmates on the 10th of October and on the 11th of October. However, it's been MONTHS and I still got no answer? I live in the Netherlands btw, also I wonder if maybe my letters weren't send? could that be a possibility? Is it normal for it to take this long? I didn't use Jpay, I just used this website to send the letter.

You can sign up for Jmail if you have a Paypal account or credit card: https://jmail.cc/#

How would I get jmail? I' m in Germany and my PP in the US..

Thanks for useful informations! It seems that I’m gonna use Jmail. As you said it’s cheaper and quicker than snail mail.

Yeah, JMail is just a service where you can compose a letter and they print and mail it for $1 (more if you add photos or pdf documents). It only takes 3-5 days on average for it to be recieved (plus any additional days it might sit in the mail room).

It's much quicker and cheaper than sending it out yourself. Especially from Europe (I'm in England).

Yellowbowl

I see. So Can I send a my mails via Jmail even my pp doesn’t have Jmail ? I mean I understand that Jmail doesn’t require inmate profile the way Jpay does? You just send letter to Jmail, they send to inmate? I asked that because I’m outside of the usa so my letter delivers max 10 days so Jmail could be better

PPAz83

JPay is different to JMail. JPay varies in every state too. If your pp isn't in a prison that has Jpay then you won't be able to use it.

From my experience though. JPay emails can be recieved within 20mins. Thats me writing him and him writing me. More often its a few hours and if the email is super long of contains a lot of flag words, they hold the mail back for the institution to read first. In Ohio they aren't supposed to hold it longer than 7 days. After that long they have to release it or tell the inmate it's been rejected. I waited 13 days for one once though!

Yellowbowl

Is it the same with Jpay? I mean my inmate doesn't have Jpay so can I use it for my pp?

PPAz83

6-8 weeks for the initial response is not unusal. Especially this time of year. You'll find that the flow between letters becomes faster after that though. Around 3/4 weeks. If you just miss the WAP cut off, it's going to be quicker to mail them yourself. Another option I use if I want to get mail to someone faster, is to use www.jmail.cc. It's cheap ($1per letter) and they print and mail it within a day and they're US based. The only reason I don't use it all the time is because I prefer to handwrite. Jmail is specifically for writing to inmates and completely legit. You can send photos too. Just upload them and they print them off and sent them with the letter. They're also $1 each but currently you get 2 for the price of 1.

It’s possible because I sent email and it’s been 3 weeks 5 day. Still there is nothing from my pp. it could be busy due to Xmas and New Year. Also yeah WAP send emails on 4th to 20th but we don’t know when facilities deliver letters to inmates. Plus it depends on when pp answer the letter. So it could be 6-8 weeks for replying back

Clement

Hi everyone, I wish you an happy new year and lot of happines !

I have one question, I sent an e-mail to an inmate located in Arizona, and we told me on some topics to wait approximatly 6-8 weeks for an answer, by snail mail.

So is it true when you send an e-mail, they are printed only on 4th et 20th of each month and from this moment you have to wait 8 weeks for an answer by letter ? ( for precision i'm in France )

Best regards

@Bunnie78: What email interface are you talking about? There are several providers, depending on the facility, but if corrlinks is working then what do you need another email interface for?

Bunnie78

Can anyone help us with email interface? We have both contacted the service and when it starts working again maybe one email comes thru. But he receives mine. Yet our corrilinks works fine, just slow right now. Pls and thanks to anyone who can help.

I didn't say maximum. Just an average. Once you get in to a flow of writing, it's only about 3/4 weeks from sending out your letter to recieving a reply if they write straight back.

The WAP service is only to start your initial contact with an inmate. They pay to put up their profile and the profile stays there for a year. They can then pay to renew it if they wish.

You DON'T have to email them through WAP for your first letter if you don't want to. You can just write to the inmates address that is listed via snail mail. In fact, I did this when I began contact with my man because I just feel like handwritten in far more personal. That's just my personal preference though.

I've also initiated contact through JPay in the first instance just because their profile stated that they had it and I knew it'd be far quicker.

Kirsten

Then the profile won't be up here anymore. If you wish to keep contact, just write the address down and write via snailmail.

One of my pps also did not renew his profile here when it ended. But it doesn't keep us from writing on to each other.

Even though you might not have gotten a reply by Jan 7th, what hinders you to write down the inmate's addy?

Yellowbowl

Hey, I wonder that according to you, we have the maximum of 6 weeks for getting a reply, right? What if pp's profile ends up within this period? I mean for mine, it's been 3  weeks since I sent, and there is still nothing from my pp. But my pp profile will end up on 7th of January, what will happen if I still haven't received from my pp or vice versa when pp profile end?

PPAz83

The mail takes about 5 days from Europe and if it’s being sent from WAP, it’s Florida but they only send out mail twice a month. So if you miss the cut off then it’s going to be at least 3-4 weeks before they even receive it.

Then it can sit in the prison mail too for around a week. That’s not unusual at all. Possibly 2-3 weeks during the holidays.

Then your pp has to write a reply. A lot of them spend their days working and programming so they don’t always have as much free time as you assume they do. Although of course, there are some that don’t do anything.

Then it goes through checks before it’s sent out (they usually do random checks on outgoing mail so it won’t always have slits in the envelope etc). Then it’s another 5 days on average once the prison send the mail out.

I think it’ll be 6 weeks from when you sent it out to when you get a reply.

Yellowbowl

Same here it’s been 3 weeks and there is nothing. I don’t know maybe my pp recieved my mail but didn’t wanna talk with me? Who knows? That’s why Im hesitating to send an another mail to check that if my pp recieved my letter. By 1th January I’m gonna contact with WAP about it. Yet, it’s holiday time and I live in outside of the usa so could be late but I dunno it actually made me sad a bit. It’s my first time so I was excited.

insgelijks! *zwaait terug*

Perhaps it didn't go out, perhaps there was sth. else.

With one of my pp, I replied to him and didn't hear back for almost 3 months. To be honest, I Had already "written it off" when his first letter arrived? The reason? He got transferred a few days before my letter went out and his profile still had the old address. Can happen, too.

But in your case I'd just act as Moonlampje suggests.

Happy writing,

Kirsten

Ha Moon! Leuk je weer te zien! *zwaait*

The email forwarding services only print and send the emails on the 4th and 20th of each month. So, that would both letters go out on oct 20th. Add to that that mail is ALWAYS slow during holiday season (nov-jan), so chances are that your mails are still on it's way. I would follow up with a handwritten letter: hey, I sent you mail through write a prisoner, but haven't heard anything yet. Did you even get it?

Aside from all that: writing with inmates is a waiting game and is going to teach you a lot of patience.
Hallo trouwens, Wat leuk dat je ook met gevangenen wilt schrijven!

Hi,

The email forwarding service is having some issues, so yes, it is possible your letters were not sent. It can take a while to receive a reply to a first letter, but over two months is a long time... You can contact WAP and ask if your letters were forwarded, or resend your letters by snail mail. Or if you have a credt card; try Jpay.
