So I finally found a friend!

Now if someone could explain (in their own way) how the Corrlinks system works I would greatly appreciate it! I have read all the terms and conditions, what not to say/do and such BUT it is all very structured. I would just like some responses including turn around time, costs for the inmate and what ever else you can throw at me. I don't want to disappoint my new friend by being a noob!! All info is helpful :)

Ah yes, the ol’ Premier Account, I swear by it! Yes, it eliminates the “I’m not a robot” thing, but better yet, it sends incoming messages directly to your mobile device and pops-up a notification when they arrive. You can reply or compose new messages as well.

Thank you St4. So upgrading basically only gets rid of the captcha then?

Alas, CorrLinks is text only. But you can still do things like this :-)

So can you send pics and videos with Corrlinks?

You either use jpay and their inmate number, or Western Union. If you live within the United States you can send a money order in the mail.

How do I add money to their account?

Tut at me I need to start reading my messages before posting search and add not ask.

Thanks to everyone who posted as it makes things a lot clearer.
I have a non federal inmate on corrlinks and it's a straight forward search and ask. Unlike federal though it can be days before you hear back from your penpal depending on facility and what the individual is upto (my penpal is in various groups and is running for chairman of one so he's busy). They are not waiting around for your mail/letters so be patient.
Hope you all have a good weekend.

Corrlinks in federal takes about 2 hours to process a message so you can repond back about three and maybe sometimes 4 times a day if you're lucky. Its pretty quick and convinient and most inmates like it because of the instantaneous nature.

Kate is spot on! I use CorrLinks to keep in touch with my pen pals in federal custody. I’m not sure how it works with other facilities, but the federal ones go like this:

1. Send your email address to your pen pal via snail mail.

2. Go to CorrLinks.com and register as a new user; use the same email address as you gave your pen pal.

3. Your pen pal must add you to her/his contact list in CorrLinks.

4. When they do, CorrLinks will send you an email, saying that so and so wants to add you to their contact list, and included in that email is an identification code. This is NOT your pen pal’s register number or inmate number; it is a system-generated code - and it expires in ten days if you don’t perform the next step.

5. Log into CorrLinks. Go to “manage my inmate list” and enter the code. Your inmate will then show as “pending”. After it’s approved, you can start messaging each other, sometimes later that day.

If it’s available to you, the “Premier Account” is very convenient. Get the CorrLinks app for your phone or tablet. You can send and receive that way, and you’ll get a notification when a new message arrives. You can read it immediately on the app, reply, start a new one, etc.

Alternatively, after your inmate is “active”, you can go to the “manage my inmate list” and check the box next to their name for email alerts. That way, when your pen pal sends a message, CorrLinks sends you an email alert to log into their system and retrieve it.

After CorrLinks became a regular thing with one of my pen pals, the whole alert/logging-in ordeal became a bit much (there’s an “I’m not a robot” step every time), and it was well worth the six bucks a year to avoid it.

At this point, I have several pen pals on CorrLinks. We still do snail mail, but CorrLinks is convenient and pretty fast - just a couple of hours from the time someone sends something until the other one receives it.

Bronwyn I believe that's the number/code the inmate/facility gives you not thier identity number. I believe its for a federal prison.
First write to the inmate snailmail or through WAP email. Just say you have corrlinks and wondered if he'd like to correspond through there. Well, after you have done all the hi I am how are you etc etc.
I'm not overly sure of it because I never had to with my current penpal on there.
I'm sure someone will help.

HI all,

I just eed to understand what the identification code is, cause I've been entering a number which is next to an inmates name yet it's not allowing it?

They pay for it. You can't. I mean, if you really wanna help.. You could send him money and he uses it to pay for the email time. But that's up to you.

Terra_Oz

you can purchase
40 minutes for 2$
100 minutes for 5$
200 minutes for 10$
300 miutes for 15$

That's how much they pay.

Am I able to pay for it if its only that much?

What Kat said. And it costs about 5 cents a minute for them. IF memory serves me right. I could ask one of my guys to be sure. I'd have a reply within 2/3 hours. Lol. I have the Corrlinks app on my phone. Absolutely BRILLIANT. I seriously never log into corrlinks through my laptop anymore

The turn around time is usually a few hours. I'm not sure about the cost as the inmate pays it. My pp told me before but I don't remember. The e-mails are screened by a third party which is the reason for the few hours it takes to get them. Not sure what else you want to know but I'll answer best I can.
