Hey, Will the inmate respond to the letter I wrote him. Sent a letter on  date May 18,2019 worried if he'll write back? So excited to have some one to relieve all of my emotions.

i'm in texas. i wrote to someone in texas as well. about how long does it take for writeaprisoner to send off these printed emails? also will i be notified once my email has been confirmed, sent, or recieved by the facility my inmate is in? also, do you all think JPay is a faster option than this site? (i do know you have to pay a small fee for JPay)

Beautykills559 - It depends which State he or she is in. Some can only respond via snail mail, so you would need to include an address for them to write back.

Leesajinx and jessicam.english - It depends which state they are in, some can only respond via snail mail.

So do you need to include a home address? I just gave my area address when making an account, can they email a reply?

jessicam.english

I wrote him back via email, how long til I get a reply are they able to respond via email? Honestly I really, really like the letter just wish there was more privacy but I get it I guess

Super new to this so do you have to include your address when you send an email to an inmate to get a reply back?

Clarissa, yes pictures are fine and different states have rules about how many you may send at a time.  It’s fine to talk about topics like divorce, family, etc.

Really the only topics people need to steer clear of are things like bringing drugs into prison, escaping prison, gangs and gang related information, other inmates, hurting themselves or other people, things like that.   Mail can occasionally get flagged and rejected for pictures being too sexual or written content being too sexual.  Not saying anyone is doing this, just giving a heads up.

Cat, usually they’ll send the letter back if it’s something that was deemed inappropriate.  If it was simply jovial, I sincerely doubt your letters would have been rejected for being too cheerful and fun.

There’s really no way of knowing if your letter or email was somehow lost in the system and never reached the inmate.  If you’re able to certify and track mail, then you can follow the tracking number to see if it reached the prison.

Is there anyway of knowing if your first letter/email didnt make it to the inmate,? All my letters have been quite jovial, but now I'm thinking, "what if I said something that will stop it being passed on"?
American prison systems are lot different to british ones. I've written to 14 inmates and had one reply. I expecting less will write because I'm over seas, which is fine. It's the not knowing if they actually received the first letter is the annoying part.

I'm new to this...Are we allowed to send pictures, as long as theyre not sexual in nature? Can we talk about being divorced etc..if trying to get to know them if they have family and kids etc...Thank you all so much for your help.

Amy, i am in a longterm-reklationship since 2007. (not with an inmate, though) and I haven't got any reason whatsoever to search for romance or a romantic relastionship.

My partner knows what I'm doing and is supporting it, bc he knows me as well as I know him and I'd say we don't have any issues of trusting each other at all. (Other issues we do have, we ain't perfect, but jealousy was never a problem for neither one of us). I've always been absolutely clear that there won't be any romantic involvement.

One of my pps (whom I do have a special bond with) did do some flirtin'and some double-meaning wordgames and I guess, if I'd be open to the "I need more of you" kind of relation, he wouldn't say no. But then again, he respects the boundary. He may have some fantasies (those are his own) or he may secretly hope I'd split up with my partner, but those are nothing but mindgames and he knows and respects it. (Thoughts are free as long as he doesn't put them into action with me, he can do whatever pleases him most).

Yet, despite (or because of, I don't know) being very clear asbout this, I've always had a reply. 100% reply rate, 6 out of 6. I recently sent another first letter, but that's too recent to know whether I will hear anything or not.

They will reply. As long as you pick the right guys to have some conversation with, they will reply. I may be a bit strange to some, it seems I tend to choose guys who don't get any other mail (which I'm sorry about, I take no pride in being "the one and only" penpal, insinuation intended here).

One or two may be a bit disappointed, if they don't get what they think they want, but if your conversation and connections offers enough other things, they build sth. with you that's worth it, without it being a romance. At least my pps did and do with me. You just got to find the right ones, right meaning here those you vibe with and who vibe with you.

The better you know yourself, your own weaknesses and strengths, spaces and boundaries, the better choices you'll make and the more enriching it's going to be.

What is the answer rate for mail if you aren't looking for a relationship?  I am looking through the profiles, and it seems a lot of people are looking for romance. Can't say I blame them!  However, I am not looking for romance. I thought I would write people as a Mom-type or Sister-type person. Looking at the profiles, I wonder if anyone would write back to me? Looking for an experienced voice on this! Seems like some of you know what you are talking about.

You have explained it better

I think it depends on the prisoner, if he gets a lot of mail or not.....I hate to say that but a lot of infamous Serial Killers who have been all over the media (for example) do receive far more letters than the "normal ones". That sounds so stupid I know... it's sad but true.

I wrote not a potential pen pal but forgot to include my address as I chose the email option where they will print and send it for me. Do I have to re write my letter and include my address? Or do they use the address I provided on my account when I signed up?

WEEKS AND MONTHS to receive a letter back? Wow. I should have written a longer letter :)

Oh god Glitter..aint that the truth, sometimes snail mail takes forever

Glittergluemoon

When I first started writing, I wrote to approx 15-20 people. My response rate was 98%, it just takes a bit. The turnaround time for the first couple of letters can take up to as long as 3-6 months or even longer. Patience is a huge virtue in this hobby/profession.

Kirsten

You'll know when you get an answer.

Seriously, no one might know this. But many of the guys DO write back.

Over time, not all at once, I've written to 6 guys. Maybe I was extremely lucky, but each of them responded, though sometimes it took a few weeks. I'm not writing with all of them any more, but most. Sometimes you click with someone, sometimes you don't.

And writing letters is always a waiting game, but it can be deeply rewarding and enriching. Getting a first letter is cool, so it's worth the wait. And sometimes it gets even better letter by letter, really.

So, welcome on here, happy writing a good luck!

Kirsten
