Same here.... this site is totally different than I expected it to be. I came on here to set up a profile for a niece of mine that is in a federal prison in Waseca and as I browse, I realize whoever came up with this concept, it is great! Just navigate through it as I am and I am sure you will sort through and find some people that def could use your wanting to be a beacon of light in their lives.

HI I am new to this process. I think something very interesting is an experience that contributes to the writer and also to the reader, although there are many conditions to send a message.

Lots of questions on here - I'll see if I can answer a few.

Wait times vary for a billion and one reasons - writing to prisoners is a patience game. Be patient and wait it out. Examples of why main is held up could include: holidays, slow mail room, your pen pal being under heavier than most watch, being in the hole, being transferred, not having stamps right away, being sick, slow mailroom... and many more.
There's no "online" correspondence with inmates that I know of. There are platforms which help make things a bit faster like JPay and Corrlinks. But these are also prone to get lost/sending half the message/coming through not in order/being delayed. You'll have to find out, usually your pen pal is the best source of this information as they will be familiar with their prison and the rules. Again, writing to pen pals in prison is a game of patience so if you're after instant communication then perhaps a chat room is better suited.
Both JPay and CorrLinks the inmate has to pay to use the service, otherwise it wouldn't be prison (if there is anything to make a profit off, guarantee prisons will do so). There is a lot of information on JPay and Corrlinks on here in various threads if you have a look through them.
Happy writing!

Hey new to this, was wondering what is the wait time for a response? I sent email also included my home address to start up pen letters. That was a week ago just wondering if there is a wait time for them to get the email?

Does this site have the option to email a pen pal? Instead of hand writing a letter. I've always wanted to write a prisoner but never actually do it. I'd rather talk via online.

Yes we do.

Good morning, everyone,

I'm sorry, I'm taking advantage of this position to ask my question:
I would have liked to know if the Corrlinks service was paying for the inmates... did they have to pay to send messages via this platform?

Thank you for those who will answer.

Penpal93

Do the messages the inmates write get sent back to us on here or do they mail them?

Depends on whom you're writing to and what state or facility s/he's in. But letters are (imho) preferable anyway, especially when you're just about to start communication. Fast communication too soon can create a whole lot of expectations and I try to prevent that. But if you're comfortable with sending emails right from the beginning, you might just as well choose someone who has two-way-messaging available.

Kirsten

Hi You certainly will. Just go browsing through the ads and I'm sure you'll find someone to write to.

Good luck and happy writing!
