To whom it may concern, My name is Allen Winslow Bridgers. And I have been on Texas death row for almost 26 years. I was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia right near the ocean. Growing up near the ocean was fun as a child, and those early days in my life remain with me as cherished memories. But I guess that's true for most kids who grew up happy and living every day without a care in the world. Then we grow up (and life happens).

I've made some mistakes in my life, derailing and getting away from the decent and proper way that I was raised. Getting into trouble and coming to prison is never good, but sitting in this God-awful place gave me a chance to detox, think, and reflect. And I guess you might say that I rediscovered myself. Prison is a dark and lonely place. It's chaos and craziness every day. A real madhouse. You either find the light or go into deeper darkness. Through it all, prayer has helped. I grew up believing. Mom took us to church every Sunday, but by the time I was a teenager, I was running with kids in the streets engaging in mischief. Smoking marijuana and drinking. The only highlight of a prisoner's day is at "Mail Call." Of course that comes through the tablets now by way of Securus.

And that is why I'm sending out this message now. I'm just trying to reach out and find a little happiness. I hope that this is enough to reach out to me in friendship.
