We live and we learn. On my first day in prison, during showers, a big muscular guy walked up to me and said, "Hey, you watch my back and I'll watch yours." I thought, "Wow, what a nice guy!" That is, until I discovered that he meant "wash." Hey, we live and learn, right?
I’m kidding; the only back I watch and wash is mine. However, we do live and learn. And I've learned that life is short. So, I live life to the fullest, and that’s what I try to teach my nieces to do as well. They’re the center of my world. I'm the crazy uncle who encourages them to pursue their dreams. I do this because I love them and because I've learned that dreams give us hope, and hope keeps us moving forward.
One hope that keeps me moving forward is my aspiration to be a better writer. I love hearing, reading, and writing stories. And everyone has one. That's what brings me here—to meet new people and hear their stories. Life is short. And I've realized that all my friends are convicted criminals. Great guys, all of them. But it's time I made some new friends. I hope to hear from you.
