Like a Thief in the Night
I just got the news
A moment ago
An acquaintance met the skies.
It wasn’t a place she intended to go
She merely sought to get high.
It wasn’t something instant
The woman died in her sleep
She was a singer, a dancer, a one-man romancer
Her heart ceased to beat.
A frightening realization
The truth thrust smack in my face,
That she and I, once side by side
No longer would share the same space.
I could have been gone in her place.
Such an awful price to give,
They say some try
Though others will die
Just so another can live.
All we seek is Nirvana
An ease to all of the pain
Some sunshine to glow in the summer
Something to help us sustain
Treachery comes in rocks
A promise that’s never fulfilled
It’s truly demise as it waits, and it hides
Until its slaves have been outcast or killed.
Rest in peace Frances.
