Do You See Me?
6/18/2021

What do you see when you see me?

Is it the tans that you see, or is it the man that you see? Can you see me, or do you choose to pretend that I don’t exist?

Is it a lost cause that you see? A statistic that issued as a negative stigma on a faction of this land? Do you see a man that traded dreams of Astronomy for an M-16, to be one of the few and the proud?

Do you see a man that grew up wanting for nothing, but yet chose to live his life as if he came from nothing?

What do you see?

Do you see a lost cause not worthy of your time – no second chances – someone that needs to be locked away with no need of a key?

Once again I ask, what do you see?

Do you see a drug dealer, a thief, a gangster, a pimp, or some other type of hustler? Or, do you see a son, a father, a hardworking man, with a want to take care of his family?

A man on a night long ago, in the heat of the moment, lost all impulse control, and now the man that you see.

So, for the last time, what do you see when you see me?
