I want to start by saying sorry for the wait, up until now I’ve been reserved regarding embracing “newbies” into my life. In all honesty, it was my fear of welcoming strangers into my life and have them do a disappearing act. I’ve seen that happen often in prison and I just didn’t want to be that guy that once had a lot of time to serve while simultaneously bearing the heartache caused by people who don’t know how to be genuinely present.
For this reason, I only allowed myself to be loved and supported by my day 1’s that wanted to be here. However, today I’m ready to face the fear I once had. I credit this challenge to my female friends who have known me since a teen. Due to I wanted a current honest perception of me, so I asked them how would they describe me to another woman and this is what a few said:
“You’re smart, romantic, thoughtful, caring, a motivator with a good heart, great friend, good listener, one of the realest men out here! (I didn’t know what she meant by out here, when I’m definitely in here locked down but hey I’ll take that compliment). You’re super easy to talk to and always willing to listen even when you have your own issues going on. You’ll always make sure your friends and family are taken care of, you’re reliable and always one call away. I look forward to talking to you because you’re so easy to talk to. You’re genuinely interested in how people are doing and that doesn’t come around often.”
After realizing what some of my BFF’s value and see through me over the years, I just feel it’s time for me to share with the great people outside of my friends who are deserving of the experience of feel good vibes from a considered real one. With that said, you’re officially invited to this unknown territory with me. So I look forward to hearing from you.
