Soldier Boy
12/29/2018

The first time I held you,

So small and brand new;

Tears came to my eyes;

And I whispered, “I love you”.

The first words you spoke,

Were music to my ears;

I was the one you ran to,

And got you through your fears.

The love in your eyes,

When you looked up at me;

Made my heart swell with pride,

And almost burst with glee.

The years flew by,

Soon you were a young man;

Yet still I remember,

Holding your hand.

The miles now separate us,

And the years too;

Still when I gaze at your photo,

I softly whisper, “I love you”.

My heart still swells,

With pride and joy;

No longer my baby,

He’s my soldier boy.
