My first blog is about a positive movement happening in the H.H. Coffield Unit. On August 2022, a Toastmasters International Club was established, the first of its kind on this unit.
The groundwork started in May of 2022, with a handful of inmates and one outside mentor/sponsor laying the foundations for the Renaissance Man Gavel Club. The journey began with 25 handpicked men out of the almost 4,000 inmates housed in Coffield.
The men were selected due to their positive character, good standing, and desire to better themselves as well as those around them. With a lot of pride, I'll admit to being one of the twenty-five men called upon to join and what a privilege and joy it's been.
The club has been a major success. Men from all walks of life have come together to create and uphold an atmosphere of respect, encouragement, and fun. In these few months, we've witnessed men grow not only as communicators but also in discipline.
The men that form the "Renaissance Man Gavel Club" have embodied the definition of "Servant Leadership". Simply put, we are growing as communicators, leaders, and as men, learning skills that will help us in all facets of our lives. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share about this life-changing movement. I look forward to any feedback on the topic.
