Slow Down, Daddy
10/11/2020

She said, “Slow down, daddy, you’re dancing too fast,

stop and teach me the steps because the song won’t last”.

She said, “Listen to me daddy, you’re out of control,

It feels like our family is in a dark hole.”

But I didn’t hear her, I thought the world was mine.

What I heard was the enemy, and I believed every lie.

She said, “Slow down, daddy, you’re dancing too fast,

stop and teach me the steps because the song won’t last”.

But I didn’t hear her, I just took it for granted.

And let the wind blow away the seeds I should’ve planted.

I remember the day she took her first breath,

She was perfect and I knew then I’d love her ‘til death.

She said, “Slow down, daddy, you’re dancing too fast,

stop and teach me the steps because the song won’t last”.

But I didn’t hear her, I thought it would never end,

Now all that’s left is the damage I cannot mend.

I should have listened to her, I had everything to gain

I wasted so many years, so many tears, and so much pain.

Now as I sit here in this dark and lonely place,

I can still hear her voice and see her pretty face,

As she says, “Slow down daddy, you’re dancing too fast.”

But it’s too late now, the music stopped,

And the song did not last.
