I looked in the mirror and who did I see?
The fading reflection of the woman I used to be.
A past cannot change, and I don’t think I would.
By making peace with the past, I’ll remember where I once stood.
Through hard times and valleys, abuse and betrayal,
Satan tried to steal the wind from my sail.
My past is behind me and there it will stay,
But I carry the lessons forward each day.
I look in the mirror and who do I see?
The reflection of a woman who looks a lot like me.
Tired and lonely, sad and confused;
Wanting to give up hands and scream, “I’ve got nothing to lose!”
Someone who starts each day with a mask on her face,
Hoping God will fill her with His amazing grace.
A broken hearted woman, slowly on the mend;
Living in the present, wondering how this will all end.
I look in the mirror and who will I see?
The shining reflection of who I am to be.
Walking strong and standing tall;
Holding God’s hand so I won’t slip or fall.
The sun is bright and my future awaits!
One day I’ll pass through these barbed wire gates.
Whatever the future holds I hope all will see,
I moved beyond my past and reached my destiny.
