The dissolution of identity
Begins along the incremental path of compromise
Step by step we move along
Forgetting where it all began
Looking back seems more inventive than reality
As we maunder about along the fringe
Of what was a boundary line of real truth
Our eyes grow weary from the opacity we created
As we move from the visible to arrant conjecture
The blindness we embark upon
Brings the tragedy of our new life
Void of sight and failing to recognize
The lie we live among the truth
And if only we could pause and recognize
Then the future of our past
Could change and hold us to our destiny
Reaching for the stars in our minds
While our nails fill with dirt
