hI,
Can anyone tell me what a Cause Number is, listed under the offense of an offender, on a DOC site?
And is it the same as the case number from the trial, or any information that can be used to find the case transcript, if the County of Conviction and Date is listed?
Thanks!

Law Dog can probably give you a 'for sure' answer but I think the "Cause Number" is the same as the case number...semantics change from state to state.
Not sure exactly what you are looking for in the second part of your question. Case files, trial transcripts, and like documentation is usually available from the County Court house where the person was tried. Unless sealed by the Court for sme reason they are public documents. Most charge for the photocopying etc. I have been advised that it is best to go to the Court House and ask to see the files...then have copied only those documents you need. If it was a long and complicated trial it could wind up costing you a fortune if you just let them copy everything.
Hope this helps.
Tom
I think "cause" as used in this context comes from the Legal term "Cause of Action" which defines the legal logics that serve and support a case has having been opened. LAW Dog is the best repository of the real deal on this. This is just a Lonewolf's estimate.
Thank you very much, Lonewolf and Tom.
Yes, it was a long trial, to me anyway, 4 days.
The transcripts are $1.00 a page, and my pal said his lawyer wouldn't give them to him, or tell him how many pages there were.
But i don't even think that lawyer was telling the truth, as I don't think he has them anyway, so they must be at the Court where he was convicted instead.
I will check with them, as it is too long a trip to go to the court.
Thanks again, Tom and Lonewolf.
