I know this question has been asked in the past, but have no idea where that thread is now! So, figured I'd ask again and anyway, we have many newcomers since that thread.

I write my letters as I just think this way is more personal and hey, I like using writing materials - much more than typing on a computer. Personally, think it's nice to see someone's writing too and like getting written letters myself! :)

I do both. If I have a lot to say and I want to write a Long letter I type because I can type as fast as I can think.
But if I want to write just a page or so I sometimes sit all comfy on the sofa and hand write it - that way I can personalise it with doodles etc.

But recently my pal told me that he reads my letters 3 times then he rips them up and flushed them down the toilet because he doesnt want any one else to get hold of them ... so I dont think it really matters whether I write or type anymore! lol.

I hand write all mine but recently got letters from 2 pps that had typed their letters to me. One just got a typewriter given to him and wants to practice and the other said he types all his letters. Both told me I could type my letters to them if I wanted too!! LOL maybe thats a hint!

I handwrite my letters i think it's much more personal.I don't like to get typed letters myself, and i'm happy my friends handwrite their letters to me.

I have a messy handwriting and i apologize sometimes myself for being messy.
My friend wrote me this about it:

'There is no need to apologize for having a messy handwriting.Mine isn't much better. It's okay that's what makes you real. And seperates you from everyone else who print their letters.'

No typing for me!Sometimes i do type my letters first, and then i rewrite it on paper.

I type mine. I agree handwritten ones are more personal, but my handwriting is so bad they would be unreadable. I apologised to my pp for typing them, and she said she didn't care. She knows the words come from the heart even though they flow through a computer.I of course don't type my signature.

As my hands shake from the meds that I have to take, I type all of my letters. About 2 months ago my house was broken into, and they took my computer, so I had to hand write a few of them, and it took me forever!!!

...man...did this topic bring back some thoughts...as I was learning to write while in prison...I recall receiving letters from this elderly man,(my PP), his writing was so hard to understand at times because of extreme arthritic hands...and many times he ask me to forgive his bad handwriting, yet he told me he thought it made a different when someone could read hand written words.
Today, I carry on with that same thought when corresponding with my pp's. So much more intimate and personal...what I never mentioned to him was because I couldn't spell very well...it literally took me hours to write him back...often drafting 2 or 3 copies before I was satisfied it was good enough to send out, and my letters often were 10 or 20 pages long...I guess it shows today lol...thank you for helping me to remember that...gd4or

I do both!

I handwrite and type my letters. If I type my letters, then I buy like decorative computer paper, or I make cards, or I use colored ink for the letters. I love to be creative:):)

Hand written all the way. The only typed stuff i send out is stuff i have looked up and printed off, which leads to another question, ok or not ok, i didnt think before i sent a rooster of his fav football team with games dates times and scores or previous games, is that ok?

Like Sergi, I do both. When my letters are going to be long, it is much more efficient for me to type them but I always use pretty stationery. I send a lot of cards and I write in those.

My pps don't seem to care...they just want letters and some of them type theirs too.

For special occasions like Christmas and their birthdays, since I'm a calligrapher, I calligraphy their envelopes. They REALLY like that!

My PP and I type all of ours. I type much faster that I write plus, spell check comes in real handy! =) Ronnie is a clerk in his facility so they let him use the office computer so we decorate all our letters with really cool word art and different fonts. I download lots of new ones that blow him away..every letter I send, he comments of the fonts I use. I also use a bit of clip art on them too, for special occasions..like halloween, thanksgiving and have just found some really cool christmas ones. I do hand write cards and always sign my name at the end of each letter.

I do both. All of my pals told me it did'nt matter if I type or write as long as I write! :-) Though one doesn't really like my handwriting, thus for him I always type my letters.
I also agree that handwriting is more personal, ... therefore, when I type, I always add personal remarks.

I'm a writer by trade and a lazy one at that so I type 99% of my letters, my pals don't mind because they like long letters and if I was doing them by hand they would be no more than a couple of paragraphs (smile)
It is nice to send the odd handwritten one here and there and I do make the effort every so often but as I said I'm lazy so 'every so often' doesn't really come around as OFTEN as it should do. (Think you better quit now Mo well your still ahead LOL)

definitely hand written.

I love handwritten letters.writing and receiving.Especially in this day of typed and email, where there aren,t so many.

Strangely,it,s the men in my family that are great letter writers, and with beautiful handwriting. I love keeping and rereading old letters ,especially my Father,s letters to me at boarding school. They can be such an excellent social record, too.

I love that writing to my Pp,s gives me such an excuse still,in my life of mostly emails,to sit down with nice thick paper,a good black pen,and actually....write!!!!!!

Regular letters I type, cards and notes I write by hand. I occasionally write a letter but as mentioned by others they tend to be shorter and don't have as much detail or explanation. It is so much easier for me to type, when you go back and read it over and decide to add something, you can just click and add.

I did have that one PP that wanted me to only send handwritten letters because he thought my handwriting was "so beautiful" and I tried to accommodate him until he revealed himself as a "kook" and now he doesn't hear from me at all.

I worried about this one too. I typed mine and asked him if he minded and he said no. He said he would type if he didn't have to pay. I didn't know they had too.
