Hello! I’m new here, so i’m Sorry if I post this here but I don’ Know where I can post it. I and a guy who is incarcerated at Riverview fc in New York write us letters, I'm also in touch with his brother. as he wrote me in the letters and as his brother told me, he would like to talk on the phone with me and I would like it too! I'm Italian and at the moment I'm in Italy, so I bought an American number and I asked to Securus, the company who gives calls from prison, to create an account to receive calls. the customer service told me that they can not create an account because I’ve not an American address. I know there are companies that rent addresses to receive packages and shipping from the United States, but I do not know if it is equally valid as an address to be able to create an account with Securus. I would be very pleased to have advice from you. Thank you! Angelica.

Most people here are actually from outside the United States so someone can probably help.  Unfortunately I'm one of those few Americans who cares enough to write to his countrymen.  I have system credit with Securus but I don't have to deal with international issues.

Perhaps you can try signing up for a Google Voice number.  Google Voice will let you sign up for a standard United States phone number, but you can easily program it to ring to any number you want.  I'm not positive if it will work with international numbers, but I haven't tried.  It should be easy for you to give it a try though.  Sign up for a Google Voice number.  Pick any area code in the United States.  I think Riverview is a 315 area code so might as well try that.  Connect the number to your phone number, then have someone call the Google Voice number from a different phone to test.

Okay I just looked it up, and there are some special steps you need to take to sign up for Google Voice outside the United States.  If you check here, it will tell you how to set this up.

Best of luck.

That's right. You won't be able to be one of Securus' customers, if you don't give them an  address based in the US.

Had the same prob withone of my pp.

Since we both didn't want to solve it illegally, he found someone on the outside who knows about our penpalship and was willing to "lend" me his own address. (Should you read here, which I don't know, thanks again!). So the credits go from my own Master card (as they should), but Securus gets its highly needed American billing address.

(It's the ecxonomy, stupid!) wink But these latest measures leading citiziens of the EU to be unable to put some of our hard earned money into the American system, is, imho, one of the most ridiculous ones.  Plus the fact, that, since May, as an EU citizien, I can no longer visit several American sites (newspapers, etc), "due to legal reasons".

In other words: While a few ppl with a lot of power in their hands start to act increasingly irrational, we should go on building bonds and bridges. I wish you luck in finding a compassionate American (perhaps a friend/family member connected with your pp) willing to lend his data to you to be able to make the connection you wish.

Greetings from Germany,

Kirsten
