Heyall,
Not sure if I'll get anywhere posting this but I'm trying to see if anyone has an inmate that would like a penpal. Preferably in Australia but willing to try anywhere right now. Im a 36yo female, wanting to write with either male or female.

Jessica,

there are thousands of inmate who would like to have a penpal. Many are listed on this site. I know, when you start it may feel overwhelming.

My advice for you would be the following: Answer (yourself) a few questions first:

1) Would you like to write to someone being in prison for a long time(or maybe never getting out, like Death row or someone with a life without parole sentence? Or

2) Would you like to start with a short termer, maybe just to see if writing to prisoners is the right thing for you to do? (It's much easier to try that with someone who doesn't have a long sentence left anyway- then to give high hopes to someone never getting out and then stop writing when you notice it isn't for you).

3) Are there certain crimes you're not cxomfortable with? (then you'd better not write to anyone committing those)

4) Would you prefer to write someone younger/older or your own age?

5) Do you have certain interests? (If so, search for keywords in profiles...) Personally, I had a wonderful 17-month penpalship (until he made parole in 2019) with someone who was part of a drama group in prison. Since I've always liked acting (and did for quite a while as a hobby) we immediately had a common topic - and a blast writing little scenes together!

6) Is religion/spirituality in whatever form important to you? If not, skip certain profiles. If yes, search certain profiles.

7) Are you a maths crack? If yes, why not helping a prisoner who's trying to get his/her GED?

8) Are you married/in a longterm relationship? (Pick people you don't find hot/sexually attractive). Are you singlre, searching for a relationship or are you open to the idea of it? (Then pick someone you find attractive. But be careful, prison relationships are neither for the feeble, nor the faint- hearted!)

9) Do you find an ad that makes you laugh? Write that person! Chaces are you got the same kind of humor and that's a huge plus!

10) Would you like to write a letter? Consider Texas or Colorado, they can't email you.

11) Are you willing to communicate electronically? Mail will be faster, then, but the connectiuon can also grow much quicker and overwhelm you if, for example, they write you more often than you got the time to respond).

12) Check the "needs mail" list. People on there get little to no mail and need it the most.

Hope this helps in choosing!
