Former inmate who hates her job and is looking for advice!

Hello all. I posted here a while back as I went through a really bad period and long story short ended up having to serve time in jail. That was a few years ago now and I'm still struggling with work and looking for some advice! After I was found guilty and received my sentence I lost the job I had at the time. I worked as a secretary and I loved it. One of the biggest regrets over all of this is that I lost a job I loved and had worked very hard to get.

I currently work two jobs to make up enough hours. I primarily work in a hotel as a maid and I also do a number of shifts a week in a Wendy's. I really hope I don't sound like I'm complaining but I honestly hate them both and am desperate to find something new and more rewarding. The problem is I just feel overwhelmed and not sure where to start. I've applied for a few jobs only to be turned down because they don't hire felons. Even when I do get an interview I feel so nervous because I know my conviction will come up and I'll have to answer for it.

So my question is, does anyone know any ex-inmates or simply jobs for ex-inmates that might be open for me? I know I made a mistake and did something wrong, which I had to punished for but I really feel that I've learnt my lesson and deserve a second chance! Thanks so much in advance!  :)

Hang in there Abi!!! Try a google search for companies who hire ex cons - there are more than a few blue-ribbon ones out there such as FedEx, CVS, Starbucks, Unilever, Gap, American Airlines, Koch Industries, Walmart, Google, and Tyson Foods to name a few. They have offices everywhere, probably one near you, and I'll bet you dollars to donuts one of them could use a person with your administrative skill set. The best piece of advice I ever got was from my mother: "Do what you love and it will never be work." It's true. Get out there and make a difference!!! And in the meantime, keep on making that difference anyway, 'cause that's what it's all about! Best of luck to you :-)

(FYI, I'm an employer, so trust me, we're not all prejudiced like that.)

Thank you thank you thank you ST4s! I did realize there were as many options open for me, it is so helpful to know that these companies will hire felons! Ive already looked at a few and it kind of gave me hope again. I don't know if they would hire someone like me for a admin job or if it would just be something more basic, but it is so uplifitng I know I have option to get away from the horrid job I have now!
