This is the first thread I open so hope I'm doing it right!

Thing is I have a pp on High Desert and I was thinking about sending him a book as a Christmas present. I wanted to send it directly from Amazon website but I don't see Amazon on the list of approved vendors (I looked for it on this web: CDCR - Visitor Additional Resources - Approved Vendors). Guess that means I can't do it unless I send the book from one of the webs I see on that list, right? I prefer Amazon because it's so much easier to me living in Spain and it has more titles he'd like to read. Also I saw most of the vendors listed on the CDCR site are most for food package, am I right?

In case I can do it through Amazon, it has to be Amazon.com or it could be Amazon.es?

As you see I have a lot of doubts, I managed with letters but packages seem more complicated. Hope someone can help me a little.

And sorry anyway for my mistakes writing English, I'm sure there are some.

For those who love to read as much as I recommend going to this educational platform https://freebooksummary.com/category/bartleby-the-scrivener, thanks to which you can learn a lot of interesting and useful information about any book or work for free. It will be useful for students and schoolchildren.

Hi, it's me again. I have another book-related question, I hope someone can answer. I ended up ordering a book for my friend for Christmas; a soft-covered one, and its language, topic, everything should be all right and allowed, but he still has not received it, and I feel so bad because of it. I tracked the book and on Amazon it said it arrived on December 19th. It hasn't been sent back, nor has he received any notification regarding why he hasn't gotten it if it wasn't allowed. I made one mistake though, when I ordered it I put my phone number down instead of the number of the prison. Is that a big problem? Also, what can I do in this situation to move the process along?

Hi! I just saw this thread and thought insted of starting a new one I would ask my question here, as it relates to the topic.

So I would like to send a book for my friend for Christmas, and my problem is that I don't know whether the mailroom would accept it, as it is hard-covered. I did check the CDCR website and found that it is stated not to be acceptable, however, the reason I'm still asking this question is because I have read here, on WAP many times that such rules they have on their websites may be outdated.

Has any of you sent hard-covered books to a California prison? Or do you by any chance know whether this rule still applies?
(If it's any help, friend is in Pelican Bay.)

Thank you in advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

No, Amazon or Barnes and Noble are just fine in California, for more information read this page, but the simple version is that any book is OK so long as it comes from a book vendor. By that I suggest for best results using an actual book store on Amazon and not just an individual seller. I also recommend that if you are sending a second hand book that it is of good quality or better with no writing, or underlining in it what so ever.

In California you need to think of this carefully as each inmate is only allowed a maximum of 10books before they have to return them to you, at cost or donate them to the library system.

Thank you so much for your answer AussieGuy. I'll read this web this afternoon and I'll keep it for the future :).

Amazon will make it so much easier, but I think I'm going to ask my pp first in case he already has 10 books, I'd prefer doing it as a surprise but didn't know about the maximum.
