I'm having so much fun right now.
Been trying to persuade him for ages to send some money towards his expenses. It took me months. Now he finally agreed and it is such a crazy task from Germany. Western Union only does it from their shops, not online. The country is not even listed though and I hope they do a "blue form". I got all the details I need. But this is really difficult.
I looked up MoneyGram, but that is also just a national possibility.
How do other Germans handle this? I would love to make it a "regular" thing, but this is kind of really crazy.

Still no money transferred!!
I went to the WU Agency, that can't do the transfer. And they don't provide "blue forms", even I asked about them.
Money Gram needs an US address and bank account, so that's not possible.
US Postal Orders are not availeble in the German post office or anywhere at a shop.
I found an initiative that usually provides a small amount of Postal Orders for penpals, but they seem to be on holiday. Can't reach anyone.
There is only these three ways of transferring money to the account of FBoP.
Anyone with an idea, what I could do???
What could you do? You could not send money. He has everything he needs. You're not family or his wife. Don't be an enabler. He doesn't need money that badly that you should be going to so much trouble. Sure you must have better things to do with your time than make repeated visits to Western Union.
If he's struggling with stamps, tell him to write less. It shouldn't be a pen pal's responsibility to finance the correspondence.
I think you're trying too hard to impress him.

Can he not receive payments through JPay? You can set up recurring payments on there, if you wish.
And it's easy too :)
@Biker - Why wouldn't she share a little of what she has with the person she's in a committed relationship with? I don't get the notion that we should not share with our loved ones if they are in prison. Why? Surely you would if the person was in the free world, right?
If he's a BOP inmate he can't get money through Jpay.
No, his prison don't offer any other payments than WU, Money Gram or Mail Order.
I sometimes think, Biker is my personal troll on this board. Nothing I would explain, he would understand. I gave up a while ago. ;-)
She asked how other people from Germany sent money to their loved ones, not if she should be sending it. Whether she has better things to do with her time than go to Western Union really is up to her. Like it or not people do chose to send their pen pals money or packages or money for stamps. If you choose not to then that's your decision. She should be able to ask a question without getting a response like this.
And I should be able to respond like this. It's free for all here, not just some. If you don't like what someone says, use the ignore feature.
Her question was "what should I do?" And that's what I think she should do. I don't care who sends what to their pen pals and you don't know what I send. Nor do you need to know. I give my opinion. You can read it, ignore it, love it or hate it.
Agreed. There is no point embarrassing him if he has requested that you don't send money.
What should I do, to get the money across and not what should I do, send it or not send it.
I might not be a native speaker, but the title for this Thread says it all, doesn't it? What was so difficult in understanding, if anyone else did?
Now, you can read this, ignore this, love this or hate this, but I will always be there for my man, no matter what you try to indicate with your entries. I'm just responcible for what I write, not for what you read.
Thanks. ;-)
when I used to get stamps for my husband I used to order them from USPS. Id call them and they would send them to him.. MAYBE that would be possible with a money order??
As far as I am aware, there is no quick or easy way to send a BOP inmate money from abroad. The BOP has a standard procedure for electronic money transfers. Your other bet is to send a money order (not a personal check) to the central processing office in Iowa. There will be a 15-day wait until he can use the funds. I imagine that would be easier on you than having to go through a WU procedure every time --- just one trip to your bank and then one trip to the post office to send it to Iowa.
You don't get US Money Orders in Germany. I would have to purchase them in the US, have them send here and send them to the FBOP. That takes ages also. Well, if I get them, that means. 15 days? Wow, he is down to his last money now.
well look at the positive side at least he doesn't have to worry about paying bills or keeping a roof over his head..
I think he would rather do that then sit in his cell looking at four grey walls, waiting to die. Don't you think?
probably but he isn't is he. but my point was he doesn't have to worry about not having any money. and I also wanted to see if you had me on ignore as you had ignored me when I tried to offer you help..
That would probably be expensive. I know here if you want a banker's cheque they charge at least £20 to make one up in sterling, and for other currencies they charge a lot more.
Better to find someone you trust in the US, paypal them the money, and then get them to send a Money Order for you.
Sunray beat me to it...:rollinglaugh:
Sitting in his cell looking at the walls?
There is an answer to that but you wouldn't like it.
If memory serves me right, there was a threaf about this problem not too long ago, and as I recall, no one came up with a solution, except to start a business by a U.S. national, taking foreigners' money and converting them to available funds for inmates. :EEK1: I think the consensus was that the idea wasn't a good one because it would require a whole lot of trust on both sides, not to mention the hassle and --- still a long time to accomplish.
Yes, if the money order is not purchased from the United States Postal Service, then it undergoes a little 'time-out' of fifteen days. I don't know why that is. But it's a moot point, since you can't send a money order from Germany in U.S. currency, right? Am I understanding you correctly?

Update: SW summarized it well, never mind my rambling. What she said! :)
So its possible to do except it takes 15 days and the cost to send money is expensive? I think he can live that long without suffering too much. Lots of people dont get anything. Hopefully he will understand.
there is a website that will send a money order for her, apparently it worked perfectly for another in Germany.
Which website is that?
I called the USPS and no, there is no way to get Money Orders.
I had another hint to call the "Bank of America" in Frankfurt/Germany tomorrow.
Also I should try the German Post and Travel Agents. Sometimes they used to offer them, but that was all about 5-7 years ago.
I asked someone I know in the US as well, but she fears about her reputation getting involved. (Saving someonce behind doesn't always mean, they help, when you need them).
So far no luck. Thanks FreakLikeMe, it was worth a try. ;-)
does he have other pen pals as willing as you to help fund him in his time of need?
If im not mistaken i believe she is in a relationship with him. At least thats the impression i get. I feel that makes it a bit different than simply a pen pal. However there are some people that make a good living and choose to send their pen pal money. The only time i get concerned is when someone is sending money and they are clearly going without to do so.
No, nobody at all besides his authistic nephew. His sister only writes once or twice a year, he said.
I asked him, if I could transfer money to his lawyer and he sending it to his account. Who can you trust more?
Maybe he doesn't want you to send money because he owes legal fees, back child support or restitution. If you send money to the attorney, it may stay with the attorney as payment for services rendered.
I've only just asked it that would be an idea. I wait for his answer first.
lmao trust a lawyer.. not trying to be rude but what planet are you from...
He has to trust his lawyer. He's on death row.
I think we just have a different sense of humor.
I am having the same problem from the UK I cannot do it online with a UK bankcard it has to be registered to an address in the US. Moneygram sends to the local outlets and has to be picked up in cash ? Western Union needs an account number I think which I haven't got ? If you managed it let me know how please ?
