Hey, I wrote a prisoner more than seven weeks ago. He’s in Connecticut. He doesn't have Jpay or CorrLinks on his profile. I sent him a letter and a 4 x 6 printed photo of myself (a photo with my face) but I didn’t get any reply from him. I am from France but he’s willing to correspond outside of the US. Does anyone know what it could be about? I think he doesn’t want to talk to me, isn’t he? I didn't use WriteAPrisoner to send my letter because I wasn't sure how fast is it, I used white paper and blue pen, I wrote his # on the paper & photo and also the return address and I used a white envelope. Did I do anything wrong or he just doesn't want to reply? I would like to write him again but I don't know if he doesn't want to hear from me. I'm so disappointed. What do you think?

Hi! The postal service here in the US is going through it!! My pen pal wrote me 2 letters and I replied to both seperately. Over 2 months went by before I got a letter asking if all is well. They didn't get either of my letters. (Or haven't yet) We are both in the states, and letters were coming every 2 weeks on the dot. A lot of other posts on the forum are talking of delayed postal service times/ not hearing from their pen pals! There are also multiple other reasons like corona virus lockdown, insufficient funds and things like that!

Oh and I just saw on the news a CT inmate was strangled with a mask - sorry, not saying that to scare anyone or for shock value, I know awful things happen in our pp's abs lo's prisons sometimes but the facilities might be locked down while they investigate what happened.

Please add on another possible three weeks in the US. Our postal system is having delays due to lack of funding and they've gotten rid of a ton of mail sorting equipment.  Also with corona sometimes they will let the mail and packages sit for an extra amount of time too, and they've been short staffed.

sending up a little follow up letter too never hurts - inmates do really love mail but things are truly moving at a snail's pace for everyone

Hi Elsss,

Welcome to the forum, by the sounds of things you did everything by the book in order for the prison staff to not have a problem with passing your letter on - unless you talked through a possible escape plan!
My advice would be to be a little more patient :) Because of Covid disrupting every little part of the world and how humans connect with each other, the mail is much slower than normal. Most of my letters from New Zealand take at least a month or more to be delivered to my PP. That could be a week in the NZ post system, a week in the US post system and two weeks in the prison mail room before being handed over, or any combination of the above. Three weeks in the NZ mail system, one week in the US system and another week in the prison mail room.... so I wouldn't give up hope just yet. My advice would be to wait a few more weeks, maybe even a month and then maybe think about choosing a new pen pal to write to instead.
It's not always easy the first time around and usually there are some hiccups but I think you could give it a little longer just to be sure.
(most of the time people post on here and then get a reply within a week - hopefully that happens to you!)
