I am from Brazil and I decided to start writing to inmates.  I added them on Jpay and when I was going to buy stamps, I found out the only option is via credit card.
I do not own a credit card right now because I was fired due to covid crisis and canceled my cards. So, even though I have the money, I can pay JPAY for the stamps.
The problem is: I did not know that the inmates would get a notification on JPAY if added them to my list and now 2 of them have contacted me after seeing I added them. I really do not want them without an answer.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Bye!

Does anyone from the Uk use a best rate number for their inmate to call you

Can you get a prepaid card? I'm also in the UK but luckily didn't cancel my cards.

Some weird replies / adverts above - just ignore :)

After those 2 wrote to me I did not add anymore names. I plan on getting a credit card on my own real soon, so I am gonna to clarify the situation to all of them. Right now, I am answering the ones who took the iniative to write to me because I do not want let them wothout answers.

Thank you guys for the suggestions.

I, too, realized recently how it works with adding someone's name to one's JPay account--the inmates see it instantly when you add their name, and many inmates end up with many names added to their account, from people who are thinking of writing (apparently) but never do write in.  I have a PP who has to write to JPay periodically to clear his account of the list of stranger's names who have added themselves to his account, but never written.  And I too have had the experience of addinga PP's contact info to my account, in expectation of writing a letter, and hearing back from the inmate before I'd even had a chance to do so.  So, just so everyone knows how that works, Yes, once you add your name to an inmate's account on JPay, they can see your info and write to you.  And will wonder why you haven't written, if you've left your name on their account and not chosen to send a letter yet.

I agree writing a snail mail might be the best option here, or if possible, use a debit card or enlist the help of a friend or family member who does have a card...Good luck and happy writing!

I think I will have to do that. I did not want to ask for help though! :/

I've always used a debit card without issue and I'm in the UK

Oh that happened to me too on accident. I added someone didn't know he would see it and he messaged me and I couldn't reply. Honestly the best solution is to write them a handwritten letter, but I don't know if you want to reveal your address to them. I don't think you will be able to respond to them without a credit card. Write them a letter, it's better than nothing.
Good luck!
