I am a researcher working on prison life.
I wondered if there are some ex-inmate that could take a little of their time in order to share the experience they had. If you know someone, please, write to me !
What is it your searching for and what do you hope to accomplish with this information?

Hello just a thought why not contact a prison ask if you could interview an inmate you should gain the answers you seek,I can't speak for all and nor would I,but most ex-inmates, sorry wrong choice of words - people will only open up to close friends, family or loved ones and only when they feel they are ready,I don't think they want to examine their past but look forward to their future having saying that good luck.

Hmm, i am sure that you have known that you needed this information for a while, so sorry ,but it would appear it is only you who can be blamed for not having enough time to go and interview someone in prison.
Also, you don't sound American or British...maybe i am wrong, but if that is the case maybe looking closer to home in your own country may help?
The pps i have would never open up to a stranger, and that may well be the case for most of the inmates.Good luck

I agree, most people don't like to talk about their experience with strangers
and when I had to write my thesis I knew about it almost a year before hand

I am currently writing my own, and although you should have known about it a while ago, I also understand that sometimes people leave things to the last minute.
The best thing for you to do now, would be to go to Prison Talk Online, if you look thorugh there is a forum for ex-offenders, and they might be willing to talk about their criminal history. Hope this helps!

I think you should speak seriously to your supervisor about your readiness for dissertation.
You are going about research in an haphazard manner.

I would be interested to know which subject this dissertation is being written for. Psychology? Law? Sociology? I am assuming that something of this level of study will require some very in-depth questioning and probing. For many ex-inmates this may be very painful and not something that they are happy to talk about with a stranger. It's not as if you will be asking questions like 'What sort of things did they give you to eat in prison?' You will delving into the depths of their despair, loneliness, guilt, frustration, depression and total desperation. Are you ready for this?
