Hello emiliasayshello, thank you for joining our forum. As per the information on our webiste, yes the inmate has to be given your physical mailing address as they usually respond for the first time contact, via USPS mail.  JPay does give the inmate your contact information though there are some states that do not give the nformation unless it is in the body of the message as many state facility inmates will need to contact you back by USPS mail and not JPay.  You can contact JPay directly and here is information from our webiste regarding physical mailing addresses: Will the inmate be given my mailing address and email address if I send a message through your website?
  • Yes. If you send your first message to an inmate via our email forwarding option, the inmate will be given your postal address and the email you used to register. This allows the inmate two options to contact you. If you do not want the inmate to have your email address, send your message directly instead of using our email forwarding option. You do not have to give your address to an inmate if you are willing to get a P.O. Box. Also, your local religious centers may let you use their address. They tend to be very supportive of inmates maintaining contact with the outside world. Be sure to ask before doing this. Another option may be to use your post office's General Delivery service. Please contact your local post office directly for additional information about this service. Direct link to this FAQ

When using services like JPay for emailing prisoners, it's important to understand the privacy implications: Visibility of Information: Generally, prisoners will not have access to your personal information, such as your address or phone number, when you send emails through JPay. However, the platform may display your name, and in some cases, a first name or initials. Content Monitoring: Keep in mind that all communications sent through JPay (or similar services) are typically monitored by prison staff for security reasons. This means that while your personal information may not be directly visible to the prisoner, the content of your messages can be reviewed by the facility.
