Hello from Germany,
I have been writing to an inmate for about a year now and even though I find the contact very enriching, it is still a lot of effort to write letters in another language. I have now discovered this page JPay - supposedly you can always communicate with it by e-mail? Who has experience with this?

I also thing about writing to several people - maybe just to say hello or to congratulate them on their birthday. Or is that rude - I certainly don't manage to write several long letters regularly. Thanks for your tips!

Hi from Germany as well,

I do write to several inmates and I wouldn't take more. If one person written regularly is what you can handle - fine. But writing in, saying "hello" and then disappear again? That would be hurting, I guess.

Birthday cards: Sure you can send them. But what would you do if someone replied with a letter wanting to get to know you better? Decline the request? Or you would have to make clear (in the bd card) , that it is just that: A bd card, without any follow-up.

Jpay: It depends. Some states use it only to send money to an inmate, in some in can be used for phone calls, video visits or emails, too.

Regarding "email": They're printed out and distributed like letters. In some states the inmates can reply via Jpay, in others, they can get your Jpay, but have to reply via snailmail.

I use JPay with my inmate, we are both here in the US and we enjoy using it. We do also use snail mail but that’s for more in-depth things.  JPay hasn’t given me any issues except for weekends, neither of us get anything over the weekend & usually by Monday night we both get all the weekend emails at once.  Sometimes the kiosks go down as well which is very frustrating because I don’t know what is going on or why I haven’t gotten anything so I worry!! Other than that JPay has been a good experience for us!  I could send Him money if I chose too & just send pics as well if I chose too.  Hope that helps

Hi everyone. I am looking for a penpal for my niece. I'm skeptical of creating a profile for her because it can look bad for them in some instances. My niece is gorgeous, half French Canadian and half Dominican. She is 36 years old. The sweetest, most resilient, person I've ever known. I love her dearly and I'm sure anyone who meets her will share my sentiments. If interested please contact me via email and I will send you her info. My name is Amy my email address is amylang008 [at] gmail.comrel="nofollow"
