Hey everyone
Could someone please explain to me about CorrLinks? I've been reading the website and it looks good but I have a few questions...

Do all state prisons accept this method of communication? because my guy says they don't have internet access - but is email on a computer different?

Do the guys that print off the mail and stuff read your private letters etc?
I've always worried about the guards and stuff reading my letters not because of having anything to hide but purely because i like the level of intimacy we have and knowing that only him and myself are reading the letters.

If i do use this method, i think i will still write normal letters too as there is nothing nicer than a handwritten letter!

Anyway, if you can give me as much information as possible that would be great!

Thanks

Nobody prints off the emails you write. you email with your pp and he emails you back.
I know he has to send you a request (invite you) ... your pp that is. I don't know about the state prisons thing.
I use corrlinks. It's great.

Hi Wishingonastart!
Letters are generally read or at least scanned to banned substances and gang related stuff. But it depends on the facility. I have a PP who is in a medium or low security facility and they stamp a message on the back that the letter and its contents have not been verified so the facility is not responsible for it. I wish all prisons would do that. I feel exactly like you do, I hate the fact that our letters are read and the 'eye over the shoulder' actually stops me from writing certain things.

hmm because he always gives me the impression nothing is read, but another guy i wrote to said that he was caught before because of plotting (don't write to him anymore) but this other guy is on medium security and it doesn't ever seem like the guards read it, does it depend on what security they're on?
i can't use corrlinks anyway because he doesn't seem to be registered on it but i've got jpay now and i've found him on there, please read my other thread and answer my questions on that!!
do you have to be invited to use jpay?! thanks!

I have not yet used Corrlinks of Jpay as my guy does not have e-mail access yet. But I know that once he will, e-mail will be monitored, too. My guess is that it depends on the security indeed.

I have not used it but I am told by a pp in Iowa it is available. It is cheaper then a regular stamp. You write the letter, email it, the prison then scans the letter for context, prints it out and it goes to your pp. As with mail sent to the institution, it is scanned over before it goes to your pp. I know of no prison in the US that does not go over mail, sent through USPS or email. It is quicker for them to recieve it. Usually the same day if sent early enough. I still send regular mail but I know the option is there if I need to get a message to him quickly.

Thanks for your replies guys.
I've just sent my first email on Jpay as my guy isn't in Federal prison he's in State and he seems to be registered on there, does anyone know if they're only registered if they use it or they automatically get registered to it. He hasn't actually ever mentioned Jpay to me before so I don't even know if he uses it, but I hope he does. Pretty sure he won't have any credits on there though. So frustrating not being able to speak to him!!
There seems to be some confusion about whether the emails get printed and given to the inmate then they write back and their letter gets scanned or whether they log onto their email, see your letter, and reply straight away. Is it different for Corrlinks and Jpay?! So confusing!!

Thanks a lot guys, shame there isn't as much information on Jpay though! Guess I will wait and see if I hear anything about it :)
Doesn't really seem to be much on the internet about Jpay, other than the actual website which doesn't actually give that much information!
It does say if it's sent before 2pm they should get it that evening and it's 9.35am over there so hopefully he will get it tonight :)

Thanks Sweet Candy! I must ask my guy because his facility SHOULD have it!

Is he in State or Federal? It seems to be Federal have corrlinks and State have Jpay.
If you go onto the website you can search using their prison number and you can see if they're registered on there right now instead of having to wait for him to tell you in a letter :)

with jpay you can send and they can receive your email as a printed page but they cannot reply that way only by snail mail

oh really? that's not what it says on the website :S
what about the money on there, if you can send them money i assumed it went onto their account on there, can they exchange that for stamps then, it's soo confusing!

Some prisons have Jpay kiosks where they can receive and respond to e-mails. I think MOST just get the letters printed by the mail room only because everybody who talks about it is talking about their letters being printed. I had one pal in Indiana e-mail me back. When I sent the message off it looked and wrote up just like I was sending to my CO pal, but instead when I logged back into JPay it said I had a message. But if your pal hasn't mentioned it then they probably don't have the kiosks.

Thanks again guys. I'm pretty sure my man doesn't have the kiosks as he's never said anything about it before. I have sent him my first email from Jpay and also put a couple of dollars into his account so that he can write back, then I've sent him another email saying that I have done so. I think that was the best thing to do what do you all think? Now I guess it's just a waiting game which sucks!
Thanks for all your help.

He's in a federal prison Wishing. But I need to ask him to send me an e-mail first anyway, so I must ask him by letter.
