Easter: The Greetings card fiasco.

Do you send greetings cards for Easter? What states are you sending to?
There are a few of my penpals that can still receive these California, Idaho, Massachuetts and Ohio.
I am trying to think if Texas does or not?
Colorado doesn't but I usually photocopy the front of the card in colour and send this. Its worked for birthdays/Christmas. Never photocopied onto black n white yet.
I rarely send snailmail, given its usually £2.30 per letter. However, I like to send out newsletters, resources, puzzles and greetings cards when it's celebration. So it's like a little pack that's delivered.
What do others do? What things do you include?

Hi KateAndrews, I can tell you for a fact Texas does. I have extensive experience writing there, and have sent cards for all holidays in the past, in my experience they're pretty liberal about cards and colors of envelopes and things of that nature.

Why can't you send cards in to Colorado? I did write one person there, years ago in like 2011, and I believe I sent him a card and it went through...??? Like, I know it's because the policy changed, but what about it is bad to have cards directly???

I just send cards, but I usually write quite a bit in them, so it's almost like a mini letter in a card.

They stopped greeting cards last year for Colorado. If they receive them they photocopy them and destroy the original. Hence why I photocopy them before sending so I can ensure a coloured copy goes to my penpal (I can just see the cheapskates photocopying in black n white).
Yet I can still receive greetings cards from them.
All to do with contraband being smuggled in, the gangs are rife at Fremont.

I thought I might just ask this here if thats okay instead of creating another post. Does anyone know if Idaho allows postcards? I thought it would be fine considering they allow greeting cards. For some context, I did write on it and included my return address on the envelope I sent it in.

I haven't sent a postcard to anyone in a long time. Last time I did I included it in a letter with a story explaining what the postcard depicted.
Let us know Raspberry.

Yup if there is an opportunity to send a card easter Christmas Saint georges day or what ever then yes I do to Nebraska (several PP) california oregon and florida. So far I haven't had any rejected. I avoid sending any with a 3d image or glitter etc. Me personally I tend to send a card each time I write snail mail to but that is personal preference to me and nor an explanation of my PP as much as they cheer up. My California oregon and 1 nebraska PP are all artistic so every now and then I get some thing from them but they do that by choice too.

You all are amazing, I didn’t get on the ball sending out Easter postcards, but I definitely want to make Christmas mailings fun.

They've recently stopped greeting cards inside of the OSP. It got so confusing to keep up with each prison's rules regarding cards, that I just send a letter.

I am amazed by some of the drawings my penpals send to me. They are very artistic.

I just thought I'd post a little update - the postcard to Idaho arrived perfectly and all the stamps were given the my PP too!

Hmm, I've sent cards to Colorado and they've gone through okay. I just sent a snailmail out to him this week (I forgot it was Easter, but sent him a random card), I put in it a bunch of printed photos that he'd asked for and a funny card I found, and I don't expect it to be rejected, as the others I've sent at Christmas and birthday got through okay. It the ban across all Colorado prisons?

Could just be Fremont then, as that's what KateAndrews mentioned in her post. I thought it was statewide too when she said that. I didn't write to Fremont when I did have someone in Colorado, I think I wrote to CSP in Canon City....???? That was forever ago and only for like 3 months too.

Easter is cool but as Athena mentioned I step it up in December for Christmas.

My Colorado friend confirms that the greeting card program of getting a copy while the original is destroyed does indeed take place state-wide. My work-around for the time being is to send a color photo of the card via JPay. These are then printed (in color!) and delivered.

I say for the time being, as Colorado discontinued their GTL/ConnectNetwork tablet program (although the option to send photos was never switched-on). There's talk that they may resume the tablet thing with another vendor. But for now, if you send your Colorado pen pals a JPay message/image, they'll get a hard copy.

I can't believe the whole gtl/connect network thing is still up in the air. Especially since they just started video visits through it last year. But it was such poor quality. So I'm glad they pulled it but hope they get it/or something similar back online soon.

Me too, Kate! It was kind of cool getting those tablet phone calls during lockdowns even though the reception was awful - WiFi coverage problems. I hope they figure that part out this next time around.
