I have decided to write to a female prisoner who is incarcerated in the state of Texas. Therefore, I would like to know if it is okay for me to mention to her in my first letter that I am writing to her in response to her ad which I saw here at “Write a Prisoner”. In other words, would an inmate in Texas get into trouble for having an ad for a pen pal?

i dont believe that texas has any active laws against such things, sounds perfectly ok comment to make
someone else might know more
Texas has no laws against having ads :)
I've noticed recently that new people in Florida prisons are saying not to mention writeaprisoner or else they will be locked up - is this correct?
I write to a guy in Texas and in my first letter I mentioned the website. I had no problems.
Hi all,
As far as i know, Texas is not a problem, but now that people in Florida are harrased or even punisht to have an ad at WAP or any other contactsite.
I guess you could always avoid to refer tot these ads, just to make sure your new pp don't get any troubles by prison staff. Since they place these ads, they problably will assume that you did find her/he at that site.
You can always refer to it later on, if they should ask about it, then you know it is ok by them.
Have fun in writing,

My PP is in Texas, and she recently told me that such a law was overturned in Texas court. So, in that sense, they are one step ahead of Florida.
Happy writing. :-)
I wrote to a guy in Florida for the first time and haven't heard anything back from him for over a month. I wonder if I got him in trouble for mentioning the site...? Oh dear.
I mentioned in my first letter to my pal in Texas that I'd got his ad from "a website" but didn't mention the name. In his reply he asked me the actual name of the site, which I then told him ( I found out later he's on a few penpal sites)there didn't seem to be any comeback from it so I presume Texas must be ok with it.

I don't think I've mentioned the ads. I figure they know where I got their ino from, they placed the ad after all...maybe I'm just assuming too much. Wouldn't be the first time...:P
I wrote right in my opening sentence in my first letter that I saw the guy's ad on WriteAPrisoner. He's not in Texas though.
I have a few PP's 2 that are in Texas. One said it wasn't a problem but the other asked me not to mention the ad....so maybe it just applies to certain rules in cwertain prisons
