From GTL to CenturyLinkCorrections

Hey guys.
A little while ago my boyfriend who's in Oregon told me that the facility he's at are going to change from GTL/GettingOut to CenturyLinkCorrections soon in June.
Does anyone here have experience with this system? I haven't heard from it before...

Hi. CenturyLink for inmates is ICSolutions. At least I think this is always the case.

If you're outside of the States and currently fund your own GTL account (rather than the inmate funding it from his end), you won't be able to do this with ICSolutions. You have to have a US bank card linked to a US address.

I think it varies state by state as far as the cost but personally I find it far more expensive than GTL.

There is no way to use it for people who live overseas? Not even with usunlocked.com ?

Farfromhome
Farfromhome's picture

No, I do t think so. As far as I know, you can't use prepaid cards or anything like that and it has to be linked to a US address.
Althougn I'm in the UK, I'm lucky enough to have my boyfriends card to use but I'm not sure that there is any other way around it. Unless anyone else has had any luck and can help you.

GTL is far easier!

I have been trying to set up an account with no luck I am in Australia While GTL was expensive they were at least international IC Solutions are rude and hang up on you. Century Link can't transfer a phone call without it dropping out or they hang up on you. As you can guess I am very angry.  Come 06/11/2020 my PP and I will be cut of from each other. Snail mail is not even being sent since 3rd April.

.nostalgic.'s picture

Wow that really sucks!! So I guess we'll be cut off once it's June 17th... (this is when they will transfer to CenturyLinkCorrections).
But I saw that you only have to verify your phone number for phonecalls and video visits right?
Has anyone tried sending an email or mail? Cause on the website it says that if you're not able to verify your phone number you can send them an email with a copy of a phone bill..

and what do they use for messages? I saw something like CorrLinks, is that right? Cause it seems like I can use that.

Farfromhome
Farfromhome's picture

I'm not familiar with Oregon so hopefully some one else can help you with that. I use Jpay for emails and Video Visits. Never used Corrlinks! But I think it's somewhat similar.
Might be possible for you to fund his account so that he can put money on his phone account for calls though.

All accounts for communication will be through IC Solutions so until you have an acount with them you can deposit any monies so that limits contact.  Century Link is incompetent, the employees have no idea what the company covers in terms of communication.  I think I have found a way through the maze but only time will tell.

n0stalgia it is really weird that the info I give my PP you write here maybe our PPs know each other

Farfromhome

I imagine they have all been given the same information as all prisons within the ODOC are going to be contracted to CenturyLink

Can I email you? That may be easier. Or you can email me kellypernot [at] gmail [dot] com

Does anyone know if a prepaid creditcard would work on an US address?

Farfromhome
Farfromhome's picture

No. It has to be directly linked to a US address as far as I know.

It might possibly work if you have a friend in the US that it can be sent to and then forwarded to you but even then, I'm not entirely sure it will work.

The problem with sites that give you a US shipping address of your own is that they can't legally send you letters you have delivered, only packages. You have to get all this notarised consent form signing etc for them to be able to forward your letters to you and you have to do it in the US.

Do you have a friend in the US that you could send the money too via PayPal or something?

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

I do have a friend who gave me the option to get a prepaid creditcard on her address. She'd send me the card once she gets it. That's why I wondered if that would work.

Farfromhome
Farfromhome's picture

That's the one option I'm not entirely sure about but it's worth a try, right!?

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

I sent an email to ICSolutions with the questions if they accept prepaid creditcards.
This is what they said:
'' Prepaid cards can be used with our system, however, they do need to have an address/zip code registered to them.  You can find more information regarding that on the website or telephone number on the back of the Prepaid Visa/Mastercard.''

So there's hope!! I ordered my prepaid creditcard last week.

Glad to hear you're hopefully sorted!

I have the same problem and I'm in the UK they said something about sending via western union to them but I'm not sure how that work over here! I dunno what I'm gonna do I talk to my pp everyday and letters are taking months atm :( I'm so upset

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

@ChantalRBailey You can send money through Western Union to your PP. That way your PP can put money on his account in order to call you.
That's pretty much my last resort if I can't find another way. But I'll try to use AccessCorrections or JPay to send him money instead of using Western Union..

ChantalRBailey
ChantalRBailey's picture

@nostalgia thank you will do! Well I emailed them and they asked for my phone number passport and current address and they validated my number! So I'm pretty happy he'll be able to call me! I would email customer [at] icsolutions [dot] com they were more helpful via email than on the phone!

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

They validated mine too!
Now I just have to see if the prepaid creditcard works. But my friend in NY didnt receive it yet.

ChantalRBailey
ChantalRBailey's picture

Hey @.nostalgic. Was wondering if you're still able to top up your account or send messages mine has stopped now?

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

@ChantalRBailey You mean on GTL? Did they already transfer over to the new system maybe?

ChantalRBailey
ChantalRBailey's picture

@.nostalgic. Yea my pp is at eoci and telmate have stopped deposits so I can't reply back to him anymore :( yep they are in the middle of transition so I just gotta wait for his invite to corrlinks. Have you got the app for corrlinks?

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

@ChantalRBailey I think if the facility is in the middle of the transition you won't be able to use any services other than the phone.
My guy is at SRCI and it's going to take 7 days for them to complete the transition, so I assume I won't be able to contact him in those 7 days except for phonecalls.
And yes, I have the app for CorrLinks but I'm not sure how to use it yet. I think I have to wait until the transition is starting..

ChantalRBailey
ChantalRBailey's picture

Yea that makes sense! Well I heard that they are fitting new phones too but I'm not 100 percent sure and wow 7 days that's super long! Yea I mean hopefully corrlinks doesn't have so many technical issues like getting out but getting out did seem alot easier to navigate! Plus I could use my UK credit card!

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

I don't even know if we need to pay for CorrLinks if we want to send messages... and if so, how we're supposed to do that and if they accept international creditcards.

freebird1
freebird1's picture

Corrlinks in comparison to JPay sucks!  It doesn't allow any pics or photos to be sent, and what's worse, is we on the outside get to send messages for free and the pp has to pay .05cents per minute to read and reply! Plus another  .15cents if they want to print anything off! It leaves me fizzin' tbh. Unlike JPay where the purchase of (electronic) stamps is for both parties..it also has the facility to include one with every mail we send. So at least they have a pre-paid mail at their disposal.

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

@freebird1 OHHH they're able to get the emails printed with CorrLinks? Cause that's what I wondered about... they're taking AccessCorrections offline for SRCI too and that kinda made me nervous cause we use AccessCorrections to still stay in touch when he's in the hole or something. But in order to do that the e-mails have to be printed I believe... So I wondered if CorrLinks offers the same service.

I am from Australia and also have a friend in Oregon, I already have messages filtering through from him. I would be happy to assist you if your still having trouble!!

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

Hey @Livvy77 ! What do you mean you have messages filtering through from him? But I can definitely use all the help possible cause as of today I was being cut off from having any contact..

Livvy77
Livvy77's picture

Before my friend and I were cut off he got my email address to add me with Corrlinks for mesaages. If your friend has an email address for you, he can send you an invitation with an id code, once you accept him as a friend you can send messages. I was cut off this week but within 48 hours he was able to message me.I had already used my email address to set up a corrlinks account. If you want to chat some more nostalic, my email address is: showerymocha77 [at] hotmail [dot] com

Jennifer I am having the exact same issues... I spent my whole weekend on the phone to customer services only for them to hung up or it cut out. I am also in Australia and I'm finding it SO difficult. I have no idea why they would change to a company that doesn't allow international cards etc. It's so ridiculous. I'm soooo frustrated!!!!

Hi Jennifer, I am also from Sydney Australia and having serious issues with this. My inmate is in SRCI and in the process of changing to IC Solutions. I find it SO ridiuclous they don't allow international cards etc. I can't tell you how many times I phoned customer service over the wekeend only for the line to cut out or be hung up on or just be told "Yeah we don't accept International people sorry"..... FURIOUSSSSS!

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

Hiiii! Have you had any luck adding funds to your account? I feel like I have tried everything with no luck. It's driving me crazy! :( My inmate at SRCI has been calling me but it wont let me accept the call because theres no funds... but I can't bloody add any! Now I have no way of letting him know..

Livvy77
Livvy77's picture

Hi Rachellah, Have you emailed your phone bill, and ID to customer support to have your phone number validated?

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

Hi Livvy! Yep I have, my phone is all validated. I just can't add funds to my account because the site doesn't support my CC due to being International :(

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

@Rachellah My boyfriend is at SRCI too! I wasn't able to put money on my account because I live overseas.. I have to send him money everytime.. that is the only way for now.

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

It's driving me crazy! Every time I receive a call from him and try to accept it says I can't as I don't have funds on my account, so he must be trying to charge me? If you don't mind me asking how are you adding funds to his account? I can't seem to pull up SRCI on the ICSolutions website to add to 'Inmate debit phone account'.. Ahhhh

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

I think he's trying yes. But I heard from my guy that they can't transfer money to their phone either yet. Hopefully they will tomorrow! I'm just going to send him money through JPay and have him pay for the calls like that.

Do you know on which unit your inmate is at?

Farfromhome
Farfromhome's picture

Pretty sure Oregon have 2 free calls per week. Not sure if they'll have fully implemented this yet with the changeover though

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

I'm not entirely sure what unit he is on, he told me but I can't remember! I have never used Jpay, I just looked into it and pulled up his name. It's just so difficult as we have no contact so I can't even let him know whats going on! Is something happening tomorrow like a change over?

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

Yea he said they installed the tablets yesterday (Tuesday) and today they're able to use it. But idk.... have you heard that they're going on lockdown too? Because a few people have the virus.

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

Oh my gosh no! I had no idea. We got suspended from GTL like 3 days before the transition... We don't even know why we were suspended so we weren't sure if this system would allow us to msg or not ior if the suspension would carry over to this system (we were hopeful) but thats why we were relying on calls so much :(

jennifer.hickman
jennifer.hickman's picture

Rachellah My PP is at EOCI I was cut off 3 days before the change over.  The last time we spoke was when we had  a visit on  Saturday 6th June.  I have not had any contact since then.  He did say that we most likely we will have to revert back to snail mail. It can take between 2 to 3 months for a letter to travel between us.  I have heard even if your phone number is validated does not mean that you have been  placed the inmates approved contact list.  I have a Corr Links account but not all faclities  are linked yet.  I am still in the dark with no more information now than I did before the change over.

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

Seeming like a similar sitution to me. I also created a Corr LInks account but when I type in his inmate number it says no results found. I've been sending a heap of letters but like you said, it's been taking months! My PP has been calling every day but when I try to accept it says I need to add funds but can't due to being International. This whole transition is such a nightmare. Struggling as we spoke all the time, such a hard thing to adjust too!

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

@Rachellah we can't add the inmate on CorrLinks. They have to send us an invite/request. I got an email today from Corrlinks saying that my guy has send me an invite, it comes with a code that you have to put there. After that you can message back and forth.
As for the calling, I suggest you send him money through AccessCorrections (his communication account), which goes directly to his phone.

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

Ohhhhh okay, I guess I will just have to wait for the invite. I just tried to send money on Access Corrections but it wont let me put in my address it says "Billing information must match the credit card you are using and be a valid USPS (United States Postal Service) address"... This is sooooo annnnnnoying! I'm so sorry for pestering!

.nostalgic.
.nostalgic.'s picture

Just use an US address. Randomly. It worked for me. And make sure you don't pay with a prepaid creditcard but with an actual creditcard. That way it worked for me!

Rachellah
Rachellah's picture

Ah! Genius! Thank you so much, I will try that now. Do you think maybe that will work for ICSolutions also?! Doubt it huh haha
