Help with skype

I use Skype and haven’t had a problem with it, so I’m not sure what could be up with it. Maybe they don’t allow call forwarding service? 

If you want to try getting a number from elsewhere, try Sonetel. It’s actually cheaper than Skype.

Yeah i thought skype was supposed to be one of the better ones so I went with that but he tried phoning 30 mins ago and all I heard was a woman's voice then it cut out after 2 seconds. I'll try sonetel and see if that works for us. He was the one who mentioned about getting an app that gives me a local number for him to call me on instead of my mobile number so im assuming his facility allows it? He said he has friends with the same issue as us and they use apps also.

Sounds like it’s a problem for everyone if you’re all using the same app and experiencing issues. As for having a local number, that’s really just because it’s much cheaper for them to call, international calls are crazy expensive, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s allowed haha. 

My pal is also in Colorado but he was still able to call me on my local phone number that I got from Skype . Maybe it depends of the facilities , in which prison is your pal ? 

He's in limon. Maybe there's some kind of issue with my Skype then? I don't know but it's very frustrating

Oh okay . I don't know why there would be a problem with your skype since you got a number ... I think it's maybe because of the internet network

Are you sure that internet in on when you use Skype ? Maybe it's a problem of connection with the internet network , when this one doesn't work well it's hard to connect 

I have Wi-Fi at home so it shouldn't be that, maybe it's worth trying 4g? I usually always make sure my Wi-Fi is all on and skype is connected from 4.30 as he calls from that time.

Yeah just try 4g and see if it's better, I do the same aha 

Mine only called me one time and the quality of the calls was terrible, sometimes I couldn't even hear what he was saying . So I wonder if the fact that the original quality of the phone call who is bad, plus the fact that the internet network is needed, make it hard of the network of Colorado to reach out to us so that's why we have those problems , Idk

Maybe the problem is from the phone at the prison , my pal told me that some of them doesn't work well

My number has only just gone through on his phone list and he's tried to phone twice with no luck as of yet! I guess I'll try 4g over the next few days to see if that works haha!

Ok, so I've just had another call on Skype, this time it was an automated message saying someone is trying to contact me from the prison but I need to add funds to a connect network account?? Is this correct before I do anything?

If the prison has advanced phone pay, yes. Depends on the facility. Look at CN's list. They show what they offer in each facility. But if you gonna do it, you'll need an American billing address.

You can't accept billed numbers on Skype, you need a company to handle the billing such as GTL. Or just use a dedicated number through services like Inmatefone and others and have the call forwarded to your phone. Skype does not deal with the billing side for the prison calls on your end. If you keep using Skype as a call forwarding service you'll also get banned from that facility. You need a dedicated US number.

I just send all my US stuff to the jmail box address.

I might be wrong but any dedicated local number is still classed as call forwarding if it goes to your own mobile and you’re outside of the US.

As I said, I’ve been using an American number with Skype with no problems so far. 

I've set up an account with connect network gtl? My number is linked to that account which is the skype number.
I've looked into his facility and that's the one it says to use so who knows, suppose I'll wait and see.

The rules for call forwarding depend on the facility. It's not call forwarding in a federal facility when I have my dedicatd American number sent to my mobile phone. It also changes the rate to 0.15cents per minute instead of $1 when you're calling overseas. Most facilities have also gotten pretty good at detecting Google and Skype numbers which is another reason why they might be getting hung up on. If they detect anything weird going on it automatically disconnects. So far I've had no problems with my number from inmatefone, but they may not service your facility.

I also heard a while ago that GTL doesn't handle Skype numbers but I could be wrong. You might want to do some reading on here and on the other site dedicated to this which is PrisonTalk. Frankly, I don't like the people over there but there is a lot of good information.

I use Skype to my PP in NJ, they use GTL. I had issues to start with pushing 5 to accept, seems that the number pad you get from a locked phone is no good use the numbers on, so i have to unlock my phone and pull up the number pad from within Skype to be able to accept the call. though i've had no other issues.

There is a common problem with Skype... You can't use the keypad on your phone. You have to use the app.
