Hi everyone,

I've been corresponding with my penpal since December, I wrote 3 letters and he answered twice. On March 26th I sent the 3rd one and it's May 16th and I still haven't received an answer. Is it a common thing? I mean, he didn't show any sign that would make me think that he doesn't want to talk anymore. Maybe a delivery problem?

I sent a new letter yesterday, in case there was a problem with the delivery of the 3rd one but do you think I should've waited more?

You did the right thing by sending another letter! I never recieved a second letter from one of my PPs and I assumed he may have not been interested in corresponding. I decided to just send a little message on JPay explaining that I hadn't heard from him and if he wasn't interested it's completely okay. I got a response within a day - he had replied a few weeks earlier! I ended up recieving that response a month later, so about two months after he sent it. It was originally delievered to the wrong address despite it being addressed correctly and it seems as though the person who it got delievered to held onto it for a while (?) So these things do happen, better to just send another and be sure. Hope you hear from them soon!

Doesn't always mean he's not interested, good that you give him another chance to respond. Could be lockdowns at his facility (which restrict inmate movement and ability to purchase writing supplies, as well as mail flow in and out), he could've been sent to the hole (segregation), he could not have the funds to respond right away, he could be sick or otherwise not feeling up to writing. Lots of reasons exist, only one is about you (not wanting to write anymore), so it's far likely that it's a reason that has nothing to do with you or what you sent. Be patient and give it a bit more time.

You have done the right thing by sending that second letter. This could be a mail room problem, or he could just not have the money right now to send out a letter it could be a lot of things, it’s not uncommon for it to take a while, mail in prison isn’t a top priority. You reached out again and gave that chance if he doesn’t respond someone out there will be greatful to have you write.
