Hi my friends,
Today I received a supposed automatic message from JPAY, coming from one of my pen pals. I would like to know if this is an authentic message or if it's scam. Could you tell me guys?
"Hello -
I wanted to let you know that my Media Account balance is running low. I use that account to buy stamps for
emails and other things. Your support is appreciated, and it's really easy to fund my Media Account, here's
how:
1. Log into JPay.com or the free Mobile App (IPhone and Android)
2. Select 'Music' or 'Send JPay Credits' from your home screen and follow the prompts, OR
3. Call 800-574-5729 to speak with a customer service representative
Thank you!
This email was sent by JPay on behalf of your loved one."
Thank u so much!

I’m a JPay user but have never received an email like this.
It is true, however, that you can put money in their account for stamps, music and games.
Same as BabyBlue eyes here.
It ut sounds like someone trying to get money for their media account.
I once added an inmate to my JPay account, thinking about writing him soon, and then I got this same message the next day. I thought it's weird because I never even wrote to him. Maybe it IS automatic after all? Perhaps you should just ask him about it. The message did put me off though, so I decided not to email him. If it's really JPay, I don't think they should be doing this.
Well, I think it's an authentic JPAY message so, to warn that the inmate has no stamps or anything else like that =X
Its not automatic. The inmate clicks to send it but its a form letter. My friend has never sent me this message and we use jpay
I've been using jpay for 14 years, and today was the first time I got it. It can't be automatic. I can't even count how many times someone said they were on their last stamp, and I didn't receive this message. I'm not sure how I'm going to reply. I might sit on it until the weekend.
Hey guys. If you read the message carefully, it says it's sent by JPay on behalf of the inmate. So it's SENT by JPay, not by the inmate, but it's ON BEHALF of the inmate. It's probably an option the inmate can check when managing his/her JPay account, done at the beginning and forgotten, and it's probably automatically generated, WHEN triggered by the inmate's account running low. The inmate probably doesn't even know when the messages are getting sent out, and it might not happen frequently, only when their account runs low. I wouldn't take it personally as a sign your pen pal is trying to hit you up for funds. Ask them about it if unsure. I've never received such a message from JPay, but if I did I'd assume it was something like that, and not a scam of any kind.
I received this message only a few messages into the first time using the app. It seemed reasonable that it would pop up, but it seemed weird to come out of no where. I didn't trust it really and just let it go. In the next message I added a reply stamp just in case he was actually out of money and had no way to let me know. I find it interesting that some people have never seen that message before. Makes me wonder why some get it and some don't.
I only got the message from OH inmates, never from AZ (before it changed from Jpay to Securus, I mean).
