Wow, so I went to buy stamps again for my account and I got 60 single page stamps for $10. Last time I bought stamps each stamp cost .44 (20 stamps for 8.80) and I had to use one for each page. Is this something new? I am VERY happy with this change. So I can send 3 typed pages for .48 and they get there very quickly. I'm ecstatic! LOL

Yuo just press the " buy/transfer stamps" prompt on jpay...you need a credit card tho

I want to buy stamps how do I do that

PA is 50 stamps for $10 and the email is 1 way only

A lot of them are only one way. The price we pay for stamps to send them a JPay has really no effect whether they can send one back to us.

I'm curious why you think most people wouldn't write to him.

Would the inmate see that I have added him/her and then promptly deleted him/her? I can just see it "she only wanted me for my jpay stamps!"

Because his crime is Rape and I know from reading posts what people here think about those types of crimes. I have not asked him any specifics about his conviction at all so I don't know any details. He wrote in his first letter that before I asked that I should make damn sure I want to know. He is set to get out in 2014 so he got about 12 years as far as I can tell. To be honest with you I don't know why I decided to write to him except that unlike other people I guess I don't see this being any worse than murder as they are both violent crimes. Child molestation is a different story altogether but I would assume that it would say something other than just "rape" if that was the case. Fact of the matter is that besides him "finding god" and wanting that to be a lot of what he writes about he is a very nice person at this moment. I do believe that even people that commit rape can change and deserve a second chance but that's just my opinion - others may have a different view but it won't change my view :) Probably more than anyone wanted to know I suppose.

Looks like Nevada is the most expensive - 33 stamps for the shocking price of $18.00 (54.5 cents each!)

and how annoying it is to those of us who write to Nevada...like me!!

While we're on the subject lol, Kansas stamps are quite expensive too, it's $8.60 for 20 stamps there. I just don't get it. Surely if they want to charge extortionate prices for stamps in certain states then they'd make it so that those stamps could only be used to send mail to inmates in that state. Looks like they're just counting on people to buy stamps for the state they're writing to (which I admit I have done for Indiana).

We could compile a league table of the most expensive Jpay stamps.

In Texas it's $8.80 for 20.

I wish I'd have known about that 2 days ago. I had to buy more stamps and went and bought 21 because I knew I'd be sending more jpays. I'll definitely take advantage of that in the future though. 60 stamps for $10 is a bargain. It costs $16 just for 43 stamps in Indiana.

They dont know if you have added them on Jpay or not. So there wouldnt be any need to tell them they have been added.

Washington inmates can see if they have been added. Both ashy and myself added Washington names to our Jpay accounts, and in both cases the inmate made the initial contact - mine even said that my name had shown up on his Jpay contacts list.

I had to re buy some stamps the other day and was like hey a big package for cheap they must have changed it. I thought this was a joke until I actually changed the names and tried to write. That is insane. But I'm glad this was brought up because I would probably not be smart enough to notice myself. Thank you : )

Well :), you could use one of the stamps and just tell them why you added them. Most people would probably understand.

Maybe someone wouldn't mind "lending" me their penpal in Washington for the purpose of buying cheaper jpay stamps. Otherwise I'll find a random person and may even make a new friend.

I'd lend you mine but I'm pretty sure that most people on here wouldn't write to him. Might be better for you to choose your own. You could probably just add them, buy the stamps and then delete them right away.

I think it would be worth it :), cheap stamps and a new friend.

ashy

Just be aware that if that person in washington uses jpay he can see that you added him on. Ive got a pal in wa and he wrote me before I wrote him lol. Not saying dont do it but you might get an email from that person
(grrrr earthmother being 2 minutes faster)

Earthmother

Michigan also sell stamps at a good price. Since Washington inmates can also send out emails, if you just add a random person, you may find that they email you because your name will show up on their email list .

mountanddo

I'm tempted to add a random name from Washington to my jpay list just to get cheaper stamps to write to my man in Texas!

Why wouldn't you do this? I don't see this as being wrong at all. .16 vs. .44 is a huge difference.

But Earthmother is correct. If I am on my Texas pen pal's name when I go to purchase stamps they are $8.80 for 20. What a racket they got going there. I'm glad I found that out sooner than later. I just hope it isn't going to cost me 6 stamps to send a 3 page letter to my pen pal in Texas. :(

I'm at a loss for words at how asinine this is....LOL

Earthmother

I buy stamps from the cheaper states, and yes they work regardless of who you are sending a Jpay to and what state they are in...it's a bit dumb, but just take the cheap stamps and run with it - just like I do :rollinglaugh:

smiley

Jpay has had a little overhaul as far as stamps, but also know depending on state will depend on cost.....like most things with DOC from one state to another......makes little sense. :)

Have you acquired a penpal in Washington?

The prices of Jpay stamps varies depending on which state you buy them from.

Well I did buy the stamps when I was on my pen pals name that is from Washington but that doesn't make any sense because I can use the stamps to send JPay emails to anyone and they are always 1 stamp a page. So just because I choose to buy stamps when on my Washington pen pal's name I got 60 for $10? Why would I not do this?

Seems a little deceptive if you ask me. The price of a JPay stamp should be the same no matter who you are sending the email to.
