I know it is hard once you send off that first letter to wait. It took two weeks from the time I sent the email from here to get responses back from 2 of the 3 people I wrote to. I've read some people on here it takes a full two months to send a letter and get one back. I don't know when you sent off your letters but I'd wait a few more weeks and if you don't get a response then try one more. I wouldn't go all out though and send to too many because you never know when you might get a response. You probably don't want to end up with 5 pp's!

I decided I would like to have a penpal too and wrote to a woman who is listed on the site. That was at the beginning of February and to date I have not received a reply. But I haven't given up hope yet.

I just started trying to get a penpal in January and I had the same waiting game. I actually just got a letter that I sent at the beginning of February. I had sent it through here and the mailroom rejected it because it was from me but sent from writeaprisoner and they consider that 3rd party. He actually had to send the letter to a family member so they could relate the contact information (which was really sweet!). I'm very new to this but know alot of things can stall so just keep waiting : )

Awww! That takes me right back to Sep 2011...I waited a month and, for some odd reason the first letters take a little longer than the others! Seriously, just wait a little longer and the rewards will be fantastic :) I hope you get a letter soon :)

The first reply seems to be the worst though, because you're not sure you're going to get a letter. So it is different from the 2nd ones... even if you're still really impatient to get that one too.

How would they do that?! LOL. Though it's true, they should. Everyone worries about the one in prison. Funny thing though, all their skeletons are out in the open. The penpal has the luxury of hiding their skeletons.
I like you signature Josh.

They might not write back but let's try to be encouraging. All 3 I wrote to wrote back. I guess I was lucky. The letters I sent were mailed on the 4th and I got responses within 2 1/2 weeks from all three. I will admit I didn't think they'd all write so that is why I sent 3 at first but now after reading the letters they are all unique. I am looking forward to getting to know these people and developing friend relationships with them all.

OMG. this actually makes me feel better and fortunate. I started writing my pp only 3 weeks ago and have already received 2 letters back and just sent my third letter to her this tuesday and i thought that was long being its a state next door but apparently its not. She did mention that she received several letters she didnt respond to for various reasons. So if they received alot of mail it could be its just taking them longer to reply to everyone.
I hope you get a letter back soon though.

None of my pps are close to me; so I expected quite a bit of a delay in getting a response. Like others, I wrote several people at once and thought perhaps one or two would write back, however they all did and I had all of their letters within about 10 days. Rounds two is off and in the mail and we'll see how long that takes.

When I first started writing, I wrote to several people as well, I remember the feeling, being anxious, excited, & waiting for something, ANYTHING, to come.... I got responses within a week from the majority of them.... I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about your letters being ignored, generally prisoners appreciate letters to them so much you can expect answers the majority of the time. Once in awhile there might be somebody who doesn't, but overall, most of them will. Letters and correspondence are HEAVEN for inmates, anybody who takes their time to write will more often than not get rewarded, most inmates will recognize that and be very grateful. I know the feeling, just be patient & they will come! If by chance they don't, there are many more options on WAP!

I wrote to four guys (initially it was three, I wanted another though lol) and they all wrote back, some quicker than others. Two of them are very busy with school, work, committees etc and letters can take upwards of a week for them to write and send. Then they have to come to Australia. I know one of my PP's has just had major post office closures in his state, which has meant it takes even longer for the mail to come through. There are so many variables as to how long it takes for letters to come through, and although not as bad as at Christmas time, the lead up to Easter can make the turn around on letters long than usual. It can be difficult to remain patient with the process, that is one of the reasons I write to four. Their letters all arrive at different times; it makes the waiting for a letter from one easier when I can concentrate on a letter from another, if that makes sense?
I wish you all the best and hope that your wait won't be too much longer!

It does not matter how quick you get them to the prison but the delay can sometimes be with the mail room ie:short staff
