I wish I could help out my MWI works at UNICOR making clothes for the military. She does crotchet and knitting, and would be able to help, she's currently in a federal prison. I don't know anything about it, but you might send a book or two, or if someone here could help I'm sure that would be great also.
He's an absolute beginner..and I'm not sure he'd make head or tail of a book..as for me...you can write what I know about knitting on a Brit postage stamp and still be able to see the Queen..sigh...so I think he'd really love it if some kind soul would write him a couple of times to get him started..
ANYONE..??? lol
I'll ask my mwi if this keeps up and you get no responses, and she's on the inside so she might know the types of people that are worth asking. They do have arts and crafts groups and acitivies in womens facilities. I'm not sure about the mens though, or I'm not sure that being in touch with being able to do arts and crafts or "knitting" is always a virtue for men in these circumstances (unfortunately).
Have you thought about joining one of the larger Facebook groups such as this one https://www.facebook.com/groups/263560007081655/ to ask a broader audience? You may get a lot more responses over there than in here.
Yeah but the second they hear the " word" incarcerated..they're gone
The group I linked to above is a support group for prisoners so you might get a better response there.
Thanks Frankie..I am in a few groups..and they haven t really been very helpful..obviously they have their own guts or girls to worry about..but I,' ll go look.
* guys not guts
Lol
I learned very briefly how to knit as a kid, but never kept up with it. Is it possible to send him one of the "how-to" books maybe off of Amazon?
I guess...but he really is a beginner and I doubt he'll make head or tail of any instructions book..it may as well be written in chinese to me anyway lol
Sorry, I know how to knit the simpliest things but trying to teach someone with only words (using a foreign language..) and not being able to show them how it's done, yaikes! I'd have to put a lot of time into it just learning the vocabulary. But I'm pretty sure there are super easy "how to..." manuals in the web so maybe just copy the beginner lessons for him? If possible, add some pictures to it too?
I'm in Germany..so if I would buy journals and send page by page ..he can't read German..
How many years does he have? Maybe you can teach him how to speak German also?

Lol @frankie...the kid is also a lifer...he's a vet tho..he was here in southern Germany at an army base for a few years
Send him a book. There are really good ones out there or a knitting magazine. Most have the basics at the back with diagrams.
