I'm sorry if this question has been asked before...
For anyone with experience in this matter, how long has it taken for mail to get to inmate? I live in CT, pp is in TX. Now, my parents live in TX so I'm pretty familiar with a 3-4 day wait for them...but with the prison system, I'm just not sure. For example, if my mail were to be returned to me for whatever reason, how long would that take?
Mail went out last Mon, though he was in transit. Was at final destination on Wed so I sent same letter out again, just in case.
Would he have received either by now, or if returned to me while he was in transit, would I have gotten it back?
Thank you

Since he's in transit it will probably take a couple of weeks to get a reply he may not have any writing supplies and i believe it takes a while till his belongings catch up with him.
What prison in TX is he in? I don't know if it's a system wide thing at the moment, but I know Polunsky is on lockdown right now (or it could be over with by now - not sure), so that's delaying mail horribly for the time being.
What I wanted to add into that post is that the TDJC will do system wide lockdowns once a year (I think?).
don't know it,sry.i'll send my letters on monday and on friday,i'll get the most back from them.and some others mailing me, and i received them every 5 houres or so
No. Each unit in TDCJ has 2 lockdowns per year that are usually 6 months apart, and take between a week and 3 weeks to complete depending on the size of the unit. They do have other lockdowns, quite frequently for a few hours at a time in the bigger units, when inmates are not accounted for during count, which happens 4-5 times each day.
Hzleyes ~ If your new pal was in transit, and has not completed his journey to his ID unit, then the mail will take some time to find him, and then as english says, you will need to wait for him to make store and get supplies, and then write back to you. If he has been in TDCJ a while and was just being transfered between units for some other reason, his property will be moving at roughly the same pace as him, although not directly with him. Mail gets forwarded between units in TDCJ quite well, considering how bad they are at other things.
TDCJ inmates cannot email back, although they can receive printed emails via Jpay. Hzleyes was refering to snail mail.
Dang it. That explains my lack of mail from C.! Good thing I saw your post.
ok,thx for saying it.the ones that mails are in fed prisons, the others that writing to me are in state prisons and a vieuw in fed.didn't knew that neither
And they're just taking their good ol' time with this one too. So not only is the entire prison on lockdown right now, but then death row has their "scheduled" lockdown for August.
Yuck! We need our mail, man!
Hmmm... that would explain a lot. I was wondering why I hadn't heard from the new guy on DR that I'd written to. I hope he does decide to reply.
Yeah, give it time. :) It took almost a month from me to hear back from mine after I wrote the first letter because they were in the middle of a lockdown & he couldn't get any stamps.
And mail moves so slow out of there to begin with. The mailroom has to copy each letter for them coming in & going out. "For security reasons." Everything is "for security reasons."
With everyone or only for DR? My guy over there is in GP btw. But I was just curious since you mentioned the copying thing.
And to add on top of all that, I didn't write in English, so that will probably add more drama to it all, haha.
I'm pretty sure they just do that for the DR guys. If they even still do that (which I'm sure they do). They'd do that when I wrote years ago, which is why I don't write back and front on pages so it won't make the mailroom's life difficult.
That's what happens when they get embarrassed by 7 death row inmates escaping!
No, not those in general population, and only some of those on DR.
when i received from my pp his first letter is was like 8 pages that he wrotes, and that from the first letter, what would it be the second and third letter?some of my pp asking me if i don't mind that they write me more as once in a week or that it doesn't matter how many pages they wrote to me.
just some FYI - i got a letter today from my PP in polunsky. it came in record time. seriously. he posted it on the 25th and i got it today.
of course, i have no idea how long it took for him to actually get the letter that he was replying to, since i sent that letter a week before my 15-page monstrosity to him, which was sent out last week. but the good news is that i heard from him. :)
OH! and he said that he thought the lockdown should have been ending tuesday (the day after he wrote), so it could very well be all over with now.
