Hello everybody. I have a pp for 10 months, we speak almost every day through jpay. He always says I'm his best friend. A couple of weeks ago I didn't reply to him a few days because I had a very high fever and my doctor thought it could be coronavirus. I didn't want to worry him and then with high fever I used very little my phone. He wrote me every day worried about me. When I replied I explained the situation and he seemed to understand. He sent me two letters after which he disappeared, I haven't heard from him for more than 10 days. I waited for an answer to give him his space and yesterday I sent him a short message to tell him that I was worried about him, I asked to tell me if he was okay. I haven't received a reply. Could something have happened? I read a comment on a Facebook page where a woman said that there are people with coronavirus in his facility but I don't know if they are just rumors. Has it ever happened to anyone? I really don't understand the reason for disappearing like this.

Thank you so much for your reply and for the comprehensive words you used. I hope to have an answer soon, even if it's negative but it's better than being in uncertainty.

Best wishes.

I would feel the same anxiety and concerns as you, Pandy, if you've been in the habit of exchanging JPays almost daily until now and it's been 10 days since you heard a reply stating your worry over not hearing anything.  I pick up that your concern is over two possibilities, either your friend is mad at you for not writing for a few days while you were sick with high fever, which you explained and he seemed to accept, so that seems unlikely--and if it is the case your pp is mad at you and not writing for that reason, I agree there's something wrong with that "best friend" terminology;  or, there's a problem with mail communication due to emergency measures in the facility.  Or some issue involving specifically your pp.  I am sorry to hear about it, and hope you find out soon what's going on.

Thank you for your answer. He has a tablet and there is Wi-Fi there. Maybe they are very slow in the mail room because of there is minimum staff.

Best wishes to you too.

Thank you for the reassurances. I had tried to inquire if there were any possible delays but I had never heard it could take so long. I'll wait another week ....

Best wishes to you too

I've been getting a bunch of freebie calls from my buds today and the general consensus on state of things re: JPay seems to be: if their facility has Wi-Fi and they have a tablet, things are status quo. If they have to use a public-access kiosk to sync their tablets or to compose/send/receive messages outright, it's not happening due to COVID-19 precautions and/or lockdowns. Hope that's all it is. Best wishes

We are in the middle of a pandemic if not at the start, this means everything runs on state of emergency. My pp in California are locked down most of the time, so they are still able to communicate and I haven't heard from my pp in Ohio and Florida for 2 weeks. You have to options either you call the prison and get information if there are any measurements taken that prevent inmates from communicating or just wait till he responds again. You shouldn't worry too much. 1. If he says you're his best friend, then feeling ill should never make a best friend disappear, and if it does, he wasn't your friend. Simple as that. 2. Jpay recommends to give letters 48h to arrive, I had mails that were delayed for weeks, so give those incidents some time (like a week) if nothing happens in that time, then you can start worrying. For now there is no real reason for getting worried, stay calm, because winter is coming.... (sorry for the GoT reference, but it kinda fits. :D)

Best wishes to you
