hi guys, my names sky ! i recently made a post on here saying i'm new to jpay and inquiring on help about emails. my penpal wrote me back and the messages were going great - when all of a sudden his typing pattern changed and his grammar changed dramatically. he said he didn't want to talk to me anymore and to instead message his other friend in the prison because he's interested in me. that weirded me out and makes me suspicious of the people he's surrounded with in the prison. is there anyway he could be in danger?? please respond, i've been sick to my stomach about this.

The whole friend thing sounds like a big red flag to me!  Block him completely.  Also, if your friend did pass on your info to this other inmate, he did it without your permission.  Also a red flag on your original Pen Pal.  And if he doesn't want to email anymore you should be respectful of his wishes.

@sky0612 Hi, I've just read your thread and wondering how you are getting on with this issue?  Has it resolved itself?  Did you get to talk again to your original pp?

thank you so much for the help !! i'll make sure to do that !!

I'd agree, I wouldn't talk to the "friend" anymore, and just delete them from my Jpay contacts list.  Theyve already demonstrated that they are underhanded and dishonest and resort to trickery to try to get what they want--it's not something I'd want in a pen pal.  I would, however, make sure the original penpal gets a heads up as to what has happened.  I think people deserve to know, when someone else is reading their mail and pretending to be them and destroy/steal their pp relationships...

I wouldn't talk to his friend honestly. I'd block the friend. I would just message the original pal and let him know what happened. Just say he was accidentally removed for something weird glitch happened but would want to still keep talking if he wants to as well. It for sure sounds like someone logged into his account to "scam" you into talking to them.

he's on NY and uses a kiosk !

hi, just like i told the other person -- thank you so much for replying !! yes, he removed me and i was entirely confused. when i tried to message him back, he told me to just message his friend because he's "better for me/ he thinks i'm beautiful." that made my stomach drop, so i messaged his friend and the typing patterns are the exact same. his friend won't leave me alone now. today, i woke up to nine jpays from his friend confessing his love to me. should i be worried?

Don't fall for it for a minute. Some ppl (not all, that is, but some) are far too trusting when it comes to others. That goes for outmates, but sometimes for inmates, too. Some ppl may pass on a tablet to their bunkee to watch to a movie,or play a vid game or what and all of sudden they "accidentally" snoop into stuff or know things that weren't told them. Been there, experienced it. Caused somewhat of an earthquake (in the cell) - and a few other things just as well. And while some MIGHT pass on info, most will not. The longer a penpalship goes, the more unlikely it becomes.

But throw jealousy (and in that case I'm referring to, addiction) into it and things can get pretty... uhm... heated. And not necessarily healthy, neither. The thing is: In most cases, things will come out- just  play Watson, combine and wait long enough. ;-)

Good luck, nah, I'm not Sherlock Holmes, just,

I also wouldn't be too concerned about his safety, though.  It sounds like guys horsing around and being jerks.  I can't see a real safety issue here, for him, except that he'll have to be more vigilant about securing his tablets or passwords.

It definitely sounds like a cellie or other inmate got ahold of your pen pal's tablet secretly and sent you a message behind his back.  Probablby to get you to talk to him, instead.  Yes, it can happen that someone can send a message under someone else's account and name.  Talk to your pen pal, and add yourself back on to his JPay contact list if he's deleted you, because he won't have any clue about any of this and likely will think that you dumped HIM.

Also, I don't know but I'd be a bit careful regardless because if he has told the people around him about you, shown your pics and so on already, that could also be a red flag. Saying this because someone else possibly knows about you and is actually interested. Well, certainly depends on what and how much he has shared. Prison is full of weird people and hence, I've forbidden my pen pal from telling people around him about me or showing my pictures.

Sometimes it's just innocent excitement and joy rather than show off that may lead to the inmate wanting to share it with his buddies, but again these men are mostly deprived of female attention and you never know when jealousy creeps in. Don't mean to scare you off but since you are new at this, just want to help you navigate around the possible red flags as well :)

Omg. I'd have a similar reaction. Something seems fishy. Do you know if he uses a tablet to write? Maybe someone used it in his absence like his celly, if that's even possible? I'm not sure if someone can log in to his account through the kiosk if that is what he uses :/

Also, did he delete you after saying he doesn't want to talk? The inmates can now delete the pen pal. If he was done with you, he should have deleted you sooner or later, right? Btw, what state is he in?
