I had posted here last week, and, asked for advice......thank you all......I now have received the response(from my pp)about the cost of the calls from the facility.Tell me if this sounds correct.....0.20(per minute pre paid)in the US.......0.35(per minute pre paid)in CANADA?Also, she says they're not supposed to call cell phones, however, most of them do not observe that rule.I know cell phones dont accept collect calls, because I've had one for 13 years, howewver,I submit to you guys expertise

I don't know which Federal facility your penpal is in, but I have one in a federal pen and he is given 200 FREE minutes each month to make long distance phone calls anywhere in the lower 48 states. The policy obviously varies from prison to prison, but there should be one set program for the whole of the Federal system.

OK...here are the Fed rules: each inmate receives 300 minutes per month of phone time. These are not free minutes. The cost is .20 / minute dialed direct - you can add funds to your ITS(Inmate Telephone System) account anytime. Collect calls are billed differently, I believe it's .35 / minute. This is a rule throughout the federal system, just some facilities are not up to date with their computer systems yet. During November and December the minutes go up to 400 per month so you can make more calls to friends and family (and the BOP can make more $$$).
