So I just got a letter from my main PP 'R' and I am really surprised at how much he liked the photos I sent. He told me in a recent letter that he has always wanted to visit Puerto Rico, so I sent him some photos of the beaches there and such. I told him I sent them so he could have a mini-mental vacation lol He really seemed to enjoy them. More than I thought. I wasn't sure if he was going to thing that it was lame! He even said that he was going to visit the beach there "very soon". haha R said he loves getting photos of things outside and away from there.
What have been you guy's experience with sending photos? :) I'm curious!
Last post
My R LOVES pictures of anything and everything. I take him on day trips with me. Last set he got was of my trip to GI visit him. He likes everything.
I got asked to send some prints of my art and my cat. But not outside places (so far). He gushed over both. I expected a passing "hey thanks!" but his reaction was very nice. I had told him I know he doesn't have a lot of space, so he can trash them when he's done looking at them. He told me I was crazy. lol I like it when people surprise me in good ways. :)
How did your horse go over btw? My pal loved the raccoon doodle.
I've sent all of my pp's a "trip to Vietnam" with some truly spectacular photos... everything, people, marketplace, street scenes, temples, Buddha statues, everything. One of my pp's told me it made him get a tear in his eye. The other one said he shared them with other guys and they all liked it. I've also done this with "the Oregon coast."
I'm not very into pics of myself at all so I try to keep that to a real minumum as in one per lifetime is enough, lol, here... look at the pretty trees, ha ha ha!
lol he wrote in the margins of the paper,"The drawing looks like a zebra lol :) JK It's cute."
And yeah, I sent him photos of my dog with her head out the car window with the wind in her face. He thought that was really funny lol
I don't take pictures unless told to. It just doesn't occur to me most of the time. The only pictures I have of my only sister's wedding, are ones other people took. ><
LOL. What a smarty pants, karleep. :) A zebra. :P on him. lol
It all depends who i am writing but basically i send pics of just about everything, trying to share a story. I have made a cuppa and cake and invited him to share, sent pics of our "dinner date" while we were on the phone together. Sent photo's of holidays, birthday, Christmas celebrations, family gatherings and BBQ's, improvements i have made around the house. The area i live, bird parks, animals parks, wildlife, flowers and anything he has sent as a gift. I have taken pics of nature at it's finest, a large spiders web full of dew on a summers day. Fireworks celebrations, carnivals, a clear night sky full of stars, my animals, including the snake, lizards, guinea pigs and what was the new chook house the kids built etc. I do not restrict myself on the pics i send because i know how valued they are and what may seem silly or insignificant to us many times is relished by them. So many times i have known my mate to go over pics i have sent years after the fact and just have some quiet time and place to escape when the going gets tough.
Sometimes the simplest things we forget they do not see.....i cannot tell you how many times i am told to send more pics. :) So snap away and send what you see through your eye's as well as the things that may be of interest to them, as i know without a doubt it will be appreciated.
The PP I mostly send phtoto's to is J and he reaaaaallly likes it. He carries them with him to work the first couple of days when he receives them. For the inmates the photo's are a way to be in the outside world for a few moments. so yeah, they are happy to receive them.
I always try to send B. a few pictures with every letter.
With my last letter I sent her some pictures of my vacation on the little greek Island where my parents are building a house. I made pictures of the ocean because she loves the ocean very much. One picture is showing a ferry boat and she said to me that she is having this picture standing on her table in her cubicle because that way she can dream herself out of prison and to the ocean. :)
I always try to send afew photos with every letters as well. Be it food I've made (some good, some a total disaster lol), places I go to, weird stuff in Asia, funny things I come across on the internet, my dog, some of me, the area I live in, just about anything that caught my eye. And oh yeah, a double rainbow once. My best friend said he is my blog hahaha.
I also send some news clippings from my country or interesting articles that I think he might be interested in. I know if I was in prison, I want to see any photos of anything outside. He was just saying the other day he might have to go get another photo albums soon. :o
I also send photos of everything...events, cars, holiday, street views...V also wanted to know what kind of supermarkets we have. So I basically take a picture of everything what comes to mind. It must be so boring in prison and they see nothing new. I think they are happy about just any photos to see the outside world. I dont send pictures from restaurants or food as I think that is cruel knowing the food in prison is so bad.
I haven't been writing to my guy for very long but he told me he loves getting photos because seeing anything outside of prison is nice for him. He also told me I'm beautiful so photos are good, haha. He's a charmer. In my last letter I offered to take some photos, even of my dog because I thought it'd be nice to take his mind off things lol.
Slighly off topic, @vintagegirl - Tom Hardy!! Drool. :)
My pals can't get enough photos either, especially of anything that is typically English, like castles or thatched cottages or anything like that. I took some photos at the gig I went to last night, and some while on a boat trip around Bristol harbour this morning, and they will be in my next letters to the pals. They have all said that it helps them leave their cells for just a little while.
I sent her photos of me, my daily go-abouts and far away places I was and where she would love to go. Nothing like an imaginary vacation :)
I take so many pictures of everything!! When I go out with friends, events, places I travel to, my favorite places in my neighborhood...and I visit him often so he makes me a list of places to visit while I'm there... sends me on little trips around his neighborhood so I take pics of that...He really enjoys the pictures as well :)
I send pics of my travels and me and he loves em!
I don't have a camera.
i'm always sending pictures. i send the max amount in one docu. mailer and sometimes a few extra in a seperate card or mailer.
do you at least have indoor plumbing? :p
There is piped water to the kitchen. We can have a hot shower in the bathroom. But we have to go into the backyard to take a dump.

Yes. with letter..
My experience with pictures, my gosh, it's been AWESOME! Mind you, I am female and I write guys so the rest just kind of goes together LOL! My guys love pictures, they all love receiving them and are very thankful for them! Especially on death row where they really don't have access to much of anything, pictures liven things up a bit and many of them have told me they look at them while they write me back, or when they're thinking of me, etc. But the reaction I have received is very good thusfar with what I have sent! They are a very good idea to send with letters, they are the next best thing to inmates for sure!
I always send photos of the most random things! They love to get involved in everything I do and see. In February I've sent a birthday picture to one of the guys of me holding a piece of cake with a blue candle on it.
I already thought of taking an "Easter egg hunt"-photo this Sunday. I'll place a little Easter basket between bushes and in trees in our backyard so it's kinda hard to find on the picture. :)
Even though it was only my second letter, he asked for a pix of me because the WAP photos are grainy. He also asked about my dogs and stuff so I sent him pixs of them as well. I was wondering if that would be too much but its not like I was naked and neither were my dogs...kinda lol. Whatevs I'm open about them.
No thats not too much. Send as many as you want to send and they love pictures of everything. Remember what they see is really dull, bars and no colours and they love seeing pictures thats any different from their current surroundings.
I send pics to mine every letter or so, it concerns me she many not be permitted to keep them all but the guidelines for her facility say she is allowed up to 10 per correspondeance so I try and take a couple (2-3) of my world every few weeks to show her what I am up to
In just about every letters I would send something extra be it pics of places I went to this week/ my dog doing something silly or not doing anything at all lol/ pics of frog legs on sale at the market/ funny or inspirational stuff/ comic strip cuttings from newspapers. Or even sometimes a pic or two related to the content of the letter. He likes it.
Oh, my penpal loves pictures, I think they all do. I have sent pictures of my vacations, Grand Canyon, Seattle etc. Even if I've gone somewhere interesting for the day I will take a picture with my blackberry. Before I started writing I used to forget to take pictures of a lot of really memorable events in my life. So now in the last couple of years I've probably taken more pictures of my life than ever before. He also takes imaginery trips of the places I've been.
I too have found my camera has been getting more of a work out since I have had a ppal these past 8 months, I am not a snap happy kind of guy but I am glad I can share pics with my ppal and she always tells me how much she likes them
My guy LOVES pictures. I have a collection of about 30 000 pictures and every letter I pick 10 or so to send to him. He absolutely loves them and mentions it in every letter. He even has requests, but the requests are so simple like a picture of the things around me, or a picture of a nature trail. Things he hasn't seen in 15 years and can live vicariously through my pictures. I am so pleased to be able to give him that and find myself now bringing my camera everywhere I go in case I see something I think he may enjoy.
What a great feeling to be able to give them so much through a simple picture. Being a photographer it's something I enjoy doing, and enjoy even more sharing it all with someone who values it as much as he does. Truly rewarding.
30,000????!!!!!
you mean it's possible to store that many on a computer? i send mine lots to, lol...i just don't have that many stored. he's all excited about the pics. i sent today.:)
I have 2 external hard drives that I store them all on. I take anywhere from 10-50 pictures a day. My camera is always in my hands lol never leaves my side and if I forget it - I have a cell phone for back up :)
