Noseymo

My pen pal of just a few weeks has very randomly stopped messaging me on JPay.

We were getting on SO well and his last message was telling me how much he adored me and that my emails were the highlight of his day, etc.. and I just haven’t heard back since. It’s so unlike him and I’m a little worried now. He’s in Eastern Kentucky CC but as far as I’m aware there’s no problem with JPay or anything.

He could just not want to write anymore but I really don’t feel like that’s the case.

Is anyone else having similar issues or is there any advice on how to not be so worried when communication is cut? I’m new to this and didn’t expect to end up caring so much!

Thank you!

Can confirm, I love snail mail!  And sending it.  I should invest in a ton of forever stamps now, the price will only go up!

Hi @Noseymo - I'd bet it happens to all of us sooner or later, for reasons as all over the map at the inmates we write to.

In this case, it could be a stamps thing (your pen pal is out of message credits), or an equipment problem (which happened recently with someone I write to), or a facility thing (like lockdown, where nobody can get to a kiosk), or a disciplinary thing. All of these hiccups tend to get resolved in time, though never soon enough. In the meantime, you can hang your hat on being adored and being the highlight of someone's day. Way to go! And now, it's down to waiting. Welcome to the club! Maybe you can send a snail-mail in the interim? I mean, who doesn't love getting something great in the mail?

I’m actually dealing with this right now! Mine isn’t in Kentucky, but there’s a lot of reasons why yours might’ve stopped communication. Don’t worry too much. He might not have any more stamps (unless you do pre-paid, then don’t worry about that), he might not be in the right mindset to write back, he’s on lockdown, he broke his tablet (if he has one), something came up with his family. I would wait a week or a few more days to see if he responds, but don’t feel afraid to send a follow-up message! It just shows you care. :)
