Today I have received one, but I have a question.

I'm obviously not a us citizen and I don't have a passport (I do have an id card). There are 2 options:

a: if no: provide alien registration number
b: if you are not a us citizen, but you have a social security number please provide this here.

I chose option b and put my social security number in that box, will that be okay? and what is an alien registration number?

The number you provided should be fine. An alien registration number is for people that come here without visas and stuff. (Illegal immigrants.)

They mean a US social security number, which if you're not in the US, you wont have. You haven't said what state it is for, but my guess is that if you don't have a passport then you will probably have to get one.

He's in Pennsylvania, I've put my dutch security number on the form, made a note that it is my social security number. So I'll mail it out today and see what happens. I won't have a passport in at least one month (as they are expensive and I'm broke :D), so I might as well give it a try. Thanx for your help!

Im just guessing here but i THINK for us euros they prefer a passport number. that way were all checked out and safe. if you get what i mean. I dont think they have any way of checking our SS numbers. I hope it works out for you.

hahahahahahah aren't they?! When I went to get my passport and ID card renewed I was out €96.10!! Friggin' bullsht. Even the ID card, that used to cost me €22 at some point now costs €43.90!?!!?!?. Stinking gemeentes. Get to set their own prices too. If it weren't for the fact that I don't have to get a new one EVERY single year, but only every 5 years, I would really be flipping out and kicking people left and right at City Hall. Ok sorry, that was my mini rant about them jacking up the prices.

"They" don't. Individual Departments of Corrections have no legal right to inspect details of individuals from other countries, they can't even run a proper background check like our own nation states can. The police do have the ability to do this, but the police are not the same thing as the DoC or the national border patrol agency.
